FIELD: plastic working of metals, in particular, manufacture of plated components of different sizes and shape from flat metal sheet. SUBSTANCE: method involves feeding metal sheet through press for performing at least two metal working operations: first cutting operation involves separating components from metal sheet, second cutting operation involves removing wastes of first operation; moving metal sheet by feeding unit along predetermined coordinate path whose horizontal axis coincides with direction of advancement of sheet through press; successively working sheet by portions positioned in direction of feeding sheet between front, rear and side edges and imaginary line extending in parallel with side edge and feeding direction. When one portion of sheet is completely worked, sheet is forced in the direction perpendicular to feeding direction so as to provide coincidence between subsequent portion of sheet and press. Components are produced by working succession of adjoining portions of sheet, which are formed as parallelograms having length at least equal to 30 mm. Upon completion of first operation, peripheral unworked waste portion is left, which is separated during the second angular cutting operation. Metal sheet and cutting tool are moved by means of programmed control device. In accordance with the method of this invention, at least one sheet containing the spider springs is positioned in a novel preform fixture having internal parts constructed to simultaneously permanently preform each spring after the fixture is heat treated. The novel fixture for carrying out the preforming process of the invention on an etched sheet comprises a base plate having a number of columns extending vertically upwardly from the flat surface. The number of columns is equal to the number of springs on the sheet, and their disposition on the base corresponds to the disposition of the inner rings on the sheet. The outside diameter of a column is substantially equal to the outside diameter of an inner ring. An intermediate plate is provided defining a number of transverse bores equal to the number of columns. The punching dies and corresponding shaving dies are located symmetrically on opposite sides of an intermediate location along the path. Devices for separating two workpiece parts, e.g., metal sheets, from one another are described and include a workpiece mounting, a lifting device arranged on one side of the workpiece mounting, and a counter-holder arranged on the opposite side of the workpiece mounting. The width of the broad strip, from which the strip with wavy edges is cut is a multiple of the width of the wavy strips. A circular section of the edge of the wavy strip goes over tangentially into the circular section of the adjacent strips. The pitch of the waves, is so chosen, that complete circular sections can be cut from each wavy strip with a min. waste of material. The circular sections of the wavy strips have the same radius as the final laminations which are punched from these strips. Central holes for the laminations are punched in the strips, while they are being punched out.

In manufacturing a link plate for a roller chain, a band of sheet steel is intermittently forwarded along a path past series of dies, including rough punching dies and shaving dies. The punching dies and corresponding shaving dies are located symmetrically on opposite sides of an intermediate location along the path. The intermediate location coincides with a location at which the lateral deviation of the band reverses. Consequently, the outer peripheral surfaces of the plate and the inner peripheral surfaces of the connecting pin holes, both being formed by rough punching, are brought into very close alignment with the shaving dies.

The press cuts blank discs from an intermittently fed sheet metal strip (5) of uniform width, using feed rollers (6) which move sideways to stagger cuts in longitudinal rows to control the outgoing waste sheet (12). A guide frame (13) reciprocates sideways, its movement synchronised with those of rollers (6). The guide may use two superimposed horizontal plates (16,17) to form an opening traversed by the strip (12) and includes adjustable lateral stops (10) with a pair of secondary feed rollers. A shearing machine (21) may trail the guide with both components (13,21) being side-hung for retraction by pivoting about a vertical axis. The hinge axles may be mounted on brackets fixed to the press substructure.
