A fixed abrasive sawing wire is presented that comprises a core ( 310 ) and an outer sheath layer ( 320 ) that is softer than the core. In the sheath abrasive particles are embedded that are held by a binding layer. The bond between core and sheath is enhanced by making it rough. The arithmetical mean deviating roughness must at least be higher than 0.50 micron. Particularly preferred is when interlocking between the core and the sheath is introduced. Such interface roughness can be obtained by subjecting the wire to sufficient cold forming by wire drawing. Interlocking will occur at even higher degrees of cold forming. The binding layer can be a metallic binding layer or an organic binding layer.

A method is described for producing a sawing bead for use in a sawing cord. Sawing cords are used for cutting hard and brittle materials. In the method, laser cladding is used to form an abrasive layer on a small metallic tube () or sleeve. The abrasive layer () comprises a metal matrix material in which abrasive particles such as diamond, cubic boron nitride or other hard cutting materials are embedded. The metal matrix material preferably comprises an active metal that improves wetting and adhesion of the abrasive particles. Although the abrasive particles are relative large—with a particle size in excess of 100 μm—they are evenly distributed throughout the abrasive layer. This is achieved by letting the tube () rotate relative to the laser cladding system possibly in combination with a relative axial movement so that the cladding track loops on itself thereby forming an abrasive layer (). Additionally the method allows to shape the sawing bead for improved geometrical tolerances and centricity. A sawing bead for use in a sawing cord is described and claimed. Sawing cords are used for cutting hard and brittle materials. The sawing bead comprises a tubular metallic sleeve on which an abrasive layer is deposited. The abrasive layer comprises a metal matrix material in which abrasive particles are held. Special about the bead is that the metal matrix material shows a dentritic structure in a metallographic cross section which is a result of the way it has been produced namely by laser cladding. The abrasive layer adheres very well to the sleeve as a metallurgical bonding layer is present between the abrasive layer and the sleeve. Abrasive particles are present down to this bonding layer thereby improving the useful life of the bead as no brazing layer is present between abrasive layer and sleeve as in prior-art beads. In the metal matrix material active metals are present that enhance the wetting and adhesion of the abrasive particles. Single bead cutting tests show at least as good a performance of the inventive beads when compared to existing beads.

An asphalt saw blade comprising:a main body having a plurality of teeth;outer plates that are coupled to opposing sides of the main body, the outer plates having teeth that align with the teeth of the main body; andcutters that are coupled to the teeth of the main body and to the teeth of the outer plates via a notched interface.2. The asphalt saw blade of claim 1 , wherein each cutter comprises a cutter main body having a front portion and a rear portion claim 1 , and wherein the notched interface comprises a notch formed in each tooth of the main body and the rear portion of the cutter main body that is positioned within the notch.3. The asphalt saw blade of claim 2 , wherein the notched interface also comprises a notch formed in each tooth of the outer plates.4. The asphalt saw blade of claim 3 , wherein the notch formed in each tooth of the outer plates is configured to create an exposed area of the main body around the notch formed in the corresponding tooth of the main body.5.
