The invention relates to a device and method for producing thick-walled plastic molded parts by injection molding or embossing. The device comprises a mold for injection molding or embossing, having a cavity, and is characterized in that the mold comprises a wall region adjacent to the cavity, and a body removed from the cavity and adjacent to the wall region near the cavity, wherein the body of the mold is designed for a temperature T 1 and the wall region is designed for a temperature T 2 different from the temperature T 1 . According to the method, the temperature T 2 of the wall region of the mold near the cavity is brought to and held at a value greater than the Vicat temperature T v of the plastic molding mass before and/or during the injection process, wherein the temperature T 2 is greater than the temperature T 1 of the mold body, and the temperature T 2 of the wall region near the cavity is brought to a temperature below the Vicat temperature T v of the plastic molding mass during the solidification of the plastic molding mass. The result is thick-walled molded plastic parts, such as optical lenses and the like, having reduced shrinkage sites.

Two shot injection molding processes are disclosed for making thermoplastic parts of two different compositions, the second shot composition having a higher thermal conductivity than the first, and the mold cavity surface temperature is greater than 70° C., preferably 70-100° C. In embodiments, the cavity surface temperature is within 20° C. of the Vicat temperature for the composition being injected, the cavity pressure is between 20 and 150 MPa, and the melt temperature of the second shot material is 200-400° C., or 250-340° C. The present invention prevents internal cracks occurring when an impeller molded using a fiber reinforced resin is manufactured by injection molding. This method for manufacturing an impeller is provided with: an injection step of filling a cavity with a molten resin containing reinforced fibers, from a gate side into which the molten resin flows, toward an opposite-gate side opposite to the gate side; and a dwell step of applying required pressure to the filled molten resin. In the injection step and the dwell step, directional cooling is performed with a temperature gradient such that the temperature becomes lower from the gate side toward the opposite-gate side. According to this method for manufacturing the impeller, the opposite-gate side shrinks with a decrease in the temperature of the molten resin since the temperature of the opposite-gate side is lower. Meanwhile, because the temperature on the gate side is increased, the molten resin can be replenished from the gate side so as to correspond to the amount of shrinkage on the opposite-gate side, and therefore the occurrence of internal tensile residual stress and cracks due to the shrinkage can be prevented.

A shaping tool includes a cooling system having one or more cooling passages configured for enhanced cooling. The cooling passages provide latent heat cooling of a heated material that is in contact with a shaping surface of the tool. The latent heat cooling provided by suitably configured cooling channels extracts more heat from the material being shaped in the tool than traditional cooling systems. 1. An injection molding apparatus comprising a top clamp plate mounted to a mold , a heated manifold mounted between the top clamp plate and the mold , the heated manifold receiving and distributing an injection fluid to an exit of a fluid delivery channel to a cavity of the mold ,an actuator comprising a housing having a chamber enclosing a drive member that is fixedly interconnectable to the valve pin, the drive member driving the valve pin reciprocally upstream and downstream through the fluid delivery channel to reciprocally open and close the exit,the actuator housing being slidably mounted upstream of the fluid delivery channel for controlled upstream and downstream axial movement of the actuator housing and the drive member along a path complementary to the axial path of travel of the valve pin,a mounting plate and an axial position adjustment screw screwably mounted within the mounting plate upstream of the housing of the actuator,the adjustment screw being controllably screwable clockwise and counterclockwise within the mounting plate to move along an upstream and downstream path complementary to the axial path of travel of the drive member and the valve pin,the valve pin being movable to selectable starting or ending injection cycle axial positions upon interconnection of the valve pin to the drive member, clockwise or counterclockwise screwing of the adjustment screw within the mounting plate to corresponding selectable axial positions and subsequent interconnection of the adjustment screw to the actuator.2. A method for producing an optical article having a Fresnel microstructure and an injection molding system for producing such an article. The method includes heating and cooling a mold and applying a pressure to a thermoplastic material during injection molding of the optical article to facilitate formation of the Fresnel microstructure. 1. A method for producing an optical article , the method comprising:(a) setting a surface temperature of a mold cavity to a cooling temperature at least 5° F. lower than a softening temperature of a thermoplastic material;(b) injecting the mold cavity with the thermoplastic material, the mold cavity including a Fresnel surface;(c) applying a compacting pressure to the thermoplastic material;(d) raising the surface temperature of the mold cavity to a heating temperature at least 20° F. higher than the cooling temperature; and(e) lowering a temperature of the mold cavity to the cooling temperature to form an optical article.2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the thermoplastic material is a thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) claim 1 , polyvinyl chloride (PVC) claim 1 , or thermoplastic elastomer (TPE).3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the heating temperature is approximately 30° F. to 100° F. higher than the cooling temperature.4. The method of claim 1 , wherein applying the compacting pressure to the thermoplastic material and raising the surface temperature of the mold cavity begin simultaneously.5. The method of claim 1 , wherein raising the surface temperature of the molding cavity begins before applying the compacting pressure to the thermoplastic material.6.
