The wallpaper is cut transversely along lines which correspond to defined positions of the pattern. The correct positioning of the line of the cut is facilitated by lines (3) marked on the rear side of the wallpaper. The marks, which may be formed by embossing the paper are spaced at equal intervals along the length of the paper and extend inwards from one or both edges. The marks correspond to the lines of the pattern which are printed on the front side of the paper. USE/ADVANTAGE - Application of patterned wallpaper. The paper is cut so that the pattern is continuous over adjoining pieces.

A wallpaper perforating tool 10 is used to perforate wallpaper to enable a solvent, which may be water or steam, to reach an adhesive layer on the paper's rear face and so soften or dissolve it, facilitating removal of the paper from a wall. The tool has a housing 12 which has an opening 24. A rotor 16 is mounted within the housing for rotation about an axis which is fixed with respect to the housing. The housing has a registration surface 22 for contacting the wallpaper. The axis of the rotor is substantially parallel to the wallpaper when the registration surface is in contact with it. A powered drive is provided to turn the rotor and may take the form of an air driven turbine (14, Fig.2). The rotor carries projections 28 which extend radially outwardly through the opening in the housing, to perforate the wallpaper. The housing may be provided with a port (20, Fig.2) for connection to an air extraction device such as a domestic vacuum cleaner.

Traversing - cutter type for cutting rectilinearly. - Relates to apparatus for trimming wall paper by means of a hand-traversed cutter, and consists in the manner of mounting the cutter on its slide and in means for clamping in position the straight-edge on which the cutter slides. The cutter 19 is mounted on a bracket 17 pivoted at 16 to a slide 5, and is pressed continuously downwards by a spring 20 carried by a screwed stud 21 pivoted at 22 to the slide. A. nut 23 serves to adjust the position of the bracket 17. The cutter may rotate freely or be secured in one of several positions by a pin passing through perforations 24 in the cutter and bracket 17. The cutter-slide 5 is adapted to be traversed in a slotted guide 4 in a straightedge 1, which is placed on the paper and determines the line of cut. The straight-edge is clamped in position by hinged pieces 7 provided with pins 8 for engaging the table, or by one or more spring pressers 11 carried by brackets 9.
