The output of an interlock/warning system can be inhibited so that an abnormal condition can be permitted to exist without an interlock/warning output being generated. Once a condition of normality has returned and remains in existence for a predetermined period of time (timer A) the "Inhibit" is removed automatically from the output so that any subsequent abnormal condition will give rise to an interlock/warning output. An abnormal condition can be rendered ineffective within (say) 7 seconds of its existence (timer B) by the application of a "cancel" signal. Failure to apply a "cancel" signal (within the 7 second period) once an abnormal condition occurs will result in an interlock/warning output being generated for a predetermined period (timer C). A respective vehicle body position actuator may be provided for each vehicle wheel, and the controller may operate the actuators in a predetermined pattern to reposition the vehicle body in a rocking motion. Rocking of the vehicle body is more readily noticed by persons adjacent the vehicle, and the rocking produces sweeping headlight beams that also more noticeable. If the thief were to enter the vehicle, the thief's actions would be impaired by the rocking of the vehicle.

According to this method, the standby is effected by actuation of a first control member of an electrical contact, such as the ignition key, the standby being effected by actuation of a second control member of a electric contact. The method is characterized in that the same member such as said ignition key is used as first and second control members and ensures that the switch is put out of standby by re-establishing the contact for a predetermined period of time. The invention can be used in motor vehicles.

A relay (3) is energised via this switch, closing its contacts (4,5) when the key is inserted. A second relay (6) is energised by the closing of one of the switch contacts associated with the opening of one of the vehicle doors. This relay is also connected to the first in such a way that once the second relay is energised, it serves to latch the first relay. A third relay (9) is energised by the operation of the first two in order to close its switch contacts (10) and operate the alarm device (11-14). A time delay may be incorporated into the system by use of a further relay (18).

The anti-theft alarm has two time delay circuits controlled by changing rates for two capacitors and with two relays and a transistorised logic. The owner sets the time delays for both circuits and locks the vehicle. The alarm then sounds for the amount of time of the second circuit, and is reset for repeated operation unless immobilised.
