Das Verfahren weist die Schritte Ermittlung eines Rückkopplungsstroms von der Retarderbaugruppe, Ermittlung der Rotorgeschwindigkeit des Rotors, Bereitstellung eines Signals, das das gewünschte Bremsmoment beschreibt, Bestimmung eines Steuerstroms für die Retarderbaugruppe als Funktion des Rückkopplungsstroms, der Rotor-Geschwindigkeit und des gewünschten Bremsmoments mittels eines rückgekoppelten Steuerungs-Algorithmus mit gleitendem Modus und Anlegen des Steuerstroms an die Retarderbaugruppe, um gesteuert ein Bremsmoment an das Antriebsaggregat anzulegen, auf.

An eddy current braking apparatus (10) includes a stator (18), a coil of wire (24), and a drum (50). The stator has a plurality of poles (20) and is mountable to a frame of a vehicle. The coil of wire (24) is wound about each of the plurality of poles (20) and wherein adjacent coils are electrically connected to form an electromagnet. The drum (50) is adapted to receive a wheel and tyre assembly and wherein the drum is rotatably mounted to a vehicle axle. An eddy current is developed between the drum (50) and the stator (18), from the relative motion of the drum with respect to the stator, thereby retarding rotation of the drum and wheel and tyre assembly. A conventional friction brake (14, fig 1.) also operates on the drum 50. The combined brake saves vehicle packaging space.

The small particle fraction is introduced into a central region inside the furnace and the large particle fraction is introduced into a peripheral region of the burden surface area inside the furnace.
