A system for opening and emptying bags containing a flowable food or other product includes an array of baffles assembled from rectangular panels 60 each having a pair of parallel slots 62. During operation the bags are drawn through the system, the baffles bearing on the bags so as to loosen or crush the bag contents. The free ends of the legs of the baffles are received in openings 66 in a pair of plates 64, the facing edges of which are separated by a sinuous groove 65 along which the bag may be drawn.

There is provided a content use monitoring package and method of making the same. The package includes a cover layer followed by a blister card layer. The third layer comprises an electronic sensor monitoring tag connected to a rupturable layer imprinted with a conductive grid. The grid is printed on a non-conductive, non paperboard rupturable substrate and is aligned with associated blisters in the blister card. To ensure precise and reliable electrical continuity between the tag and grid they are connected by a low or zero insertion force flat flex connector which connection is also reversible. The tag includes re-usable electronic circuitry and power source. The fourth and bottom layer is a backing which contains a mechanism to tear open the package and remove the tag by unplugging the flex circuit connector. The tag can then be reused and the battery replaced as required.

Disclosed is a tool for the extrusion of fluid material from a flexible walled tube container such as a toothpaste tube. The tool comprises two clamping elements (1.4) having surfaces (1.5) held in close proximity to each other by resilient connectors (2.1). By applying a force so as to push connectors (2.1) towards each other the surfaces (1.5) are moved apart to allow the insertion of the end of the tube from which material is to be extruded. When the force is removed the resilient connectors cause the surfaces (1.5) to move towards each other and pinch the tube. Pushing the tool along the tube towards the outlet of the tube results in the contents of the tube being extruded. Alternatively the tube may be fed through a slit (1.2) in a first of the clamping elements to extrude the material. The empty portion of the tube may be passed through a second, wider, slit in a second of the clamping elements.

The invention relates to a method for removing a sterile product from a sterile package which contains the sterile product and to an apparatus (1) for actuating the method. The method comprises clamping a part of a sterile package (5) located between the sterile product (6) and a first flap (7), and cutting the sterile package (5) at a region (9) interposed between the clamped surfaces (3, 4) and the flap (7). Once the facing surfaces (3, 4) are disengaged, an opening (10) is identified in the sterile package (5), through which the sterile product (6) can be expelled. The surfaces (3, 4) are then disengaged from the clamping action, and the sterile product (6) expelled from the sterile package (5) through the opening (10) by exerting a pushing action on an external surface of the sterile package (5).

The invention relates to a device for extracting a liquid ( 14 ) contained in a container ( 12, 13, 15 ) of non-brittle material such as a container containing a liquid or pasty cosmetic or food product. The device comprises two wheels ( 1, 2 ) rotating about parallel axes (AX 1, AX 2 ) and separated from each other by a gap (E), together with motor means ( 3 ) for driving the two wheels ( 1, 2 ) in rotation in opposite directions. At least one of the wheels ( 1, 2 ) includes spikes ( 7, 11 ) projecting radially from an outer base diameter of the wheel (D 1, D 2 ) and engaging in corresponding recesses in the other wheel ( 1, 2; 21 ). The device serves simultaneously to compress and to pierce the containers ( 12, 13, 15 ) when they pass through the gap (E) between the two wheels.

An article-unloading apparatus comprising a bin assembly including a bag inside a bin. The bin assembly is raised and lowered by a lift and tilted, when raised, to dump articles onto a decline conveyor, such as a ramp. A winch attached to the bag moves the bottom of the bag through the bin to help push articles from the tilted bin assembly. A camera takes a video image of the articles entering the ramp to detect clumps. Stops on the ramp are selectively actuated to block the bottom-most articles in a clump to help separate articles.

A container for packaging a pre-portioned amount of liquid or dry product is provided that includes a one-piece outer casing defining an interior reservoir. The outer casing has a cylindrical shell that is closed at one end by a rounded tip and open at the opposing end with an open circular outer edge/rim defining a mouth. To fill the container, the product is introduced through the mouth into the interior reservoir; then opposing edges of the rim are compressed together and sealed with heat to create an elongated seal having two opposing ends. Multiple types of elongated seals are provided. In one aspect the outer casing is formed unitarily of a plastic resin. To open the container, the consumer squeezes the two opposing seal ends/termini toward each other; this deforms the elongated seal and causes the seal to snap open, which allows access to the product.

The invention proposes to dispense a substance from a container filled with a single portion of a substance. The container comprises a preformed deformable body defining a filling cavity which body has an opening and an integral planar circumferential rim surrounding said opening. The opening is closed by a cover sheet which is sealed to the circumferential rim by a circumferential sealing seam. The circumferential rim has a dispensing part which is covered by the cover sheet. A dispensing passage is formed between the dispensing part and the cover sheet. At the location of the dispensing passage is provided a weakened sealing seam portion, such that upon pressurizing the content of the container, the weakened sealing seam portion breaks and substance flows out of the container through the dispensing passage. The dispensing part is flat and the dispensing passage for the substance is defined by the cover sheet sealed to the flat dispensing part by at least two outwardly directed sealing seams. The outwardly directed sealing seams extend at a distance from one another from the circumferential sealing seam to the edge of the dispensing part.
