A method and apparatus for adjustably mounting tracks that suspend horizontal sliding doors at a freight elevator landing. The apparatus comprises a plurality of brackets adapted to be mounted in the shaft on the header above the landing opening. The brackets are each secured to the header with anchor bolts. Each anchor bolt is set in the header but initially allows vertical movement of the bracket. An adjusting screw, carried on each bracket, is arranged to easily and precisely move the bracket up or down relative to the anchor bolt as needed to position the tracks and, therefore, the door panels at a proper height. Once adjusted such that a specified gap is established between the lower edges of the door panels and the threshold, each anchor bolt can be tightened to fix its respective bracket in its adjusted position.

This block is a loose fit in a groove 22 below the door, and slides along the groove noiselessly when the door is moved. The canvas and rubber sheets are held together by upper and lower metal plates 31, 32 riveted together. The top plate being secured by screws 34 to the bracket 23.

A method of positioning an elevator door interlock associated with a hoistway door that selectively closes off an opening into a hoistway , the method comprising:positioning an elevator car in the hoistway near the hoistway door so that an elevator door coupler is aligned with the interlock;opening a door of the elevator car and the hoistway door;accessing an adjustment mechanism supporting the interlock from outside of the hoistway; andusing the adjustment mechanism to adjust a position of the interlock relative to the hoistway door from outside the hoistway.2. The method of claim 1 , wherein using the adjustment mechanism to adjust the position of the interlock includes causing relative movement between the hoistway door and the interlock until the hoistway door is in a selected alignment with the door of the elevator car.3. The method of claim 1 , comprising subsequently securing the interlock in the adjusted position relative to the hoistway door.4. The method of claim 3 , wherein securing the interlock occurs at least partially inside the hoistway.5. The method of claim 1 , wherein accessing and using the adjustment mechanism is performed by an individual supported on at least one of a landing floor or a floor of the elevator car.6. An elevator hoistway door seal structure and a hoistway drainage system are provided at a hoistway entrance for use with a multiple level building with an elevator system in which an elevator car moves between floors within an elevator hoistway. The hoistway contains a plurality of doors providing access to the hoistway from a lobby at each floor through the hoistway entrance. The hoistway doors are substantially sealed with a hoistway door seal structure (22) to prevent the migration of water into the hoistway shaft during a building fire. A hoistway drainage system (24) is provided at the hoistway doors to carry water from the elevator floor lobby to a building drainage system to capture the water before it enters the hoistway. The elevator system can then be used as a reliable means to evacuate building occupants and for fire department personnel to stage personnel and equipment.
