SUBSTANCE: invention relates to polyvinyl sulphonic acid, which is used as high-molecular weight dopant, a method of producing polyvinyl sulphonic acid, a composite, versions of a dispersion, versions of a method of producing a dispersion and versions of an electroconductive layer. The polyvinyl sulphonic acid includes vinyl sulphonic acid links of formula: (1), where R 1 , R 2 and R 3 , Z are a hydrogen atom. The molar amount of sulphonic acid groups formed by monomeric vinyl sulphonic acid relative to the total molar amount of monomer links is 50.0 to 98.0 mol %. The polyvinyl sulphonic acid has optical density of 0.1 to 2.0 (aqueous solution, 0.2 wt %, cell length 10 mm) in the wavelength range of 255 to 800 nm. The method of producing polyvinyl sulphonic acid includes polymerisation of monomeric vinyl sulphonic acid of general formula: (1'), where R 1 , R 2 and R 3 , Z are a hydrogen atom. The obtained polyvinyl sulphonic acid is then heated at temperature in the range of 90°C to 120°C for 0.5 to 500 hours. The composite includes said polyvinyl sulphonic acid and electroconductive polymer. The method of producing dispersion includes dissolving and/or dispersing said polyvinyl sulphonic acid in a solvent. The monomer is then polymerised to obtain an electroconductive polymer in the solvent in which a polyanion - polyvinyl sulphonic acid - is dissolved and/or dispersed. The dispersion forms an electroconductive layer which includes poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) and a polyanion - polyvinyl sulphonic acid. When measuring by X-ray diffraction, the ratio of the area of peaks between peak K, where the angle 2θ ranges from 8° to 10°, and peak L, where angle 2θ ranges from 24° to 28° (area of peak K/area of peak L) ranges from 1.0 to 10.0. A technique is described for the preparation of polymers according to a process in which the starting compound of formula (I) is polymerized in the presence of a base in an organic solvent. No end chain controlling agents are required during the polymerisation to obtain soluble precursor polymers. The precursor polymer such obtained comprises structural units of the formula (II). In a next step, the precursor polymer (II) is subjected to a conversion reaction towards a soluble or insoluble conjugated polymer by thermal treatment. The arylene or heteroarylene polymer comprises structural units of the formula III. In this process the dithiocarbamate group acts as a leaving group and permits the formation of a precursor polymer of structural formula (II), which has an average molecular weight from 5000 to 1000000 Dalton and is soluble in common organic solvents. The precursor polymer with structural units of formula (II) is thermally converted to the conjugated polymer with structural formula (III).

The polymers useful in the present invention have many desirable attributes. They possess good antimicrobial activity and are compatible with components of conventional soaps, shampoos, skin-care medicaments, and the like. These polymers are also non-volatile, hydrolytically-stable, thermally-stable, and may be soluble in water and organic solvents. Furthermore, they form no undesirable colors in typical personal care items. Still further, they are cost competitive with known antimicrobial additives used in conventional skin care formulations.

Also provided is an electrically conductive layer or film formed from the composition, and an article comprising the electrically conductive layer or film. The electrically conductive polymer according to the present disclosure has one or more hydrophilic side chains. The hydrophilic side chain is covalently bound to the conductive polymer, which allows the polymer to be stable at high temperatures. Thus, the stability of electrical conductivity can be extended. Depending on the concentration of the hydrophilic side chain, the conductivity can change. Hydrophilic side chains provide a successful way to produce flexible films that exhibit tunable conductivity. Furthermore, high levels of surface-resistance uniformity can be achieved in the coating art using environmentally friendly water-based solvents, allowing uniform and rapid coating of conductive polymers on plastic film surfaces.

A technique is described for the preparation of polymers according to a process in which the starting compound of formula (I) is polymerized in the presence of a base in an organic solvent. No end chain controlling agents are required during the polymerization to obtain soluble precursor polymers. The precursor polymer such obtained comprises structural units of the formula (II). In a next step, the precursor polymer (II) is subjected to a conversion reaction towards a soluble or insoluble conjugated polymer by thermal treatment. The arylene or heteroarylene polymer comprises structural units of the formula III. In this process the dithiocarbamate group acts as a leaving group and permits the formation of a precursor polymer of structural formula (II), which has an average molecular weight from 5000 to 1000000 Dalton and is soluble in common organic solvents. The precursor polymer with structural units of formula (II) is thermally converted to the conjugated polymer with structural formula (III)
