Compositions and articles comprising rapidly-degrading materials are provided as are methods of making articles using compositions of the invention. The articles and compositions include polyvinyl alcohol and one or more stiffeners. 1. An article having a solid surface , the article comprising:polyvinyl alcohol;polyethylene glycol; anda stiffener comprising one or more of talc, fiberglass, calcium carbonate, and a titanium complex.2.
