Весовое содержание смазочного материала составляет от 1% до 50% по отношению к весу смеси, а содержание вулканизированной каучуковой крошки составляет 70-100% по отношению к весу СБС. СБС представляет собой полимер линейного, радиального типов или их смесь. Каучуковую крошку получают из переработанных шин. Смазочный материал представляет собой минеральное масло. При температуре 160-200°С осуществляют экструзию смеси с получением соединения, содержащего каучуковую крошку, СБС и смазочное соединение.   • (a) coating the rubber particles with a polymeric unsaturated hydrocarbon compound;
  • (b) mixing the resulting coated rubber particles with a bonding material; and
  • (c) allowing and/or causing the resulting mixture to form the desired coherent rubber composition. The polymeric unsaturated hydrocarbon compound is conveniently a compound having a long chain aliphatic structure, for example a hydroxyl-substituted polymer of 1,3-butadiene. The bonding material is conveniently a pre-polymer for a polyurethane or polyurea, having terminal -NCO groups. Coherent rubber compositions obtained by the method are well suited for use as play surfaces or sports surfaces.

    A method of recycling rubber comprises mixing recycled rubber crumb and/or granulate in a high shear mixer (such as an internal mixer) with virgin rubber to provide a mix. Typically, the crumb and/or granulate is present in an amount of above 60 wt.% of the mix. Mixing may take place for 20 minutes or less. The materials may be exposed to a temperature of up to 200{C in the high shear mixer. A cure system forming less than 5 wt.% of the mix may be added into one or more of the mix, the rubber crumb and/or granulate, the virgin material, or the high shear mixer. A rubber composition comprising an aggregate 10A of used rubber crumb and/or granulate 2 in a virgin rubber matrix 5 is also disclosed. A composition containing more than 80 wt.% used rubber is further claimed. The compositions are used to form truck tyres or acoustic sheets.

    Vulcanized rubber is reclaimed by treating pieces of the rubber to render a surface layer of each piece plastic while the inner core of the piece remains non-plastic. A chemical reagent can be used in the treatment, but it is preferred to render the surface layers of the rubber pieces plastic by a heat treatment which involves direct exposure of the pieces of rubber to either a flame or a heated gas. In a preferred embodiment of the invention vulcanized rubber pieces are dropped under gravity into a flame so that any attached textile residues are burnt away simultaneously with the plasticizing of the surface layers of the pieces, and the heated pieces then enter a stream of cold air which quenches the heat treatment.

    Rubber modified asphalt cement compositions and methods

    The present invention discloses methods of making improved rubber modified asphalt cement compositions, and compositions made by the method, where the compositions are useful in paving, roofing, coating and other sealing applications. In one aspect, the method comprises combining asphalt, RVPR (or a blended mixture of asphalt and RVPR) and at least one dodecyl or tridecylbenzene sulfonic acid (SA), which can be linear (LAS) or branched (BAS), in the presence of moderate heat. After heating the resultant RMAC mixture exhibits at least one of the following: ( 1 ) an increase in softening point, ( 2 ) an increase in hardness, or ( 3 ) improved recovery from deformation. In another aspect, the invention teaches addition of at least one SA to previously manufactured RMAC to accomplish at least one of the following: ( 1 ) an increase in softening point, ( 2 ) an increase in hardness, or ( 3 ) improved recovery from deformation. For paving compositions, the resultant RMAC mixtures made by the methods of the invention are mixed with an appropriate grade of aggregate composition, and other paving materials as desired.

    Elastomer compositions comprising uncured elastomer and reclaimed elastomer are described. In one embodiment, the compositions comprise reclaimed elastomer material (micronized rubber powder) of broad particle size distribution, which is less expensive than traditional reclaimed elastomer material with narrow particle size distribution. Further, compositions comprising reclaimed elastomer materials with broad particle size distribution perform comparably to those comprising reclaimed elastomer materials with narrow particle size distribution. In other embodiments, the compositions comprise both vulcanized and devulcanized elastomer materials. Advantageously, by using a combination of vulcanized and devulcanized material, it is possible to incorporate a greater percentage by weight of reclaimed material in to an elastomer composition, thus providing additional cost savings while maintaining high levels of mechanical properties. Further, the use of the reclaimed material reduces landfill waste resulting in a more environmentally friendly product.

    A process for preparing thermoplastic rubbers from blends of vulcanized rubber scrap materials and virgin Natural Rubbers is provided comprising blending the vulcanized rubber scrap materials with virgin Natural Rubbers (NR) on a two roll mill or an internal mixer to form a polymeric mixture, followed by passing the polymeric mixture with an olefinic plastic through a twin screw extruder along with devulcanizing additives at elevated temperatures. The plastic resin may be a virgin resin, a recycled resin or a mixture thereof. The process is termed “dynamic devulcanization” to denote that the rubber scrap material is being devulcanized and intimately homogenized with virgin NR while it is being blended with the plastic resin to form the said thermoplastic natural rubber. A compatibilizing agent such as phthalic anhydride is introduced at the tail end of the twin-screw extruder to enhance the interface adhesion between the devulcanized rubber, virgin NR and the plastic resin. The resultant thermoplastic natural rubbers exhibit superior physical properties such as tensile strength, elongation, hardness and flexural modulus compared to thermoplastic rubber compositions comprising mixtures of plastics, NR and recycled rubbers heretofore produced. In one embodiment, the thermoplastic rubbers are prepared from blends of partially vulcanized NR known as Superior Processing rubber in lieu of blends of NR and vulcanized rubber scrap materials for better uniformity and consistency of finished thermoplastic rubber products, and virgin plastic resins.

    Elastomer compositions comprising uncured elastomer and reclaimed elastomer are described. In one embodiment, the compositions comprise reclaimed elastomer material (micronized rubber powder) of broad particle size distribution, which is less expensive than traditional reclaimed elastomer material with narrow particle size distribution. Further, compositions comprising reclaimed elastomer materials with broad particle size distribution perform comparably to those comprising reclaimed elastomer materials with narrow particle size distribution. In other embodiments, the compositions comprise both vulcanized and devulcanized elastomer materials. Advantageously, by using a combination of vulcanized and devulcanized material, it is possible to incorporate a greater percentage by weight of reclaimed material in to an elastomer composition, thus providing additional cost savings while maintaining high levels of mechanical properties. Further, the use of the reclaimed material reduces landfill waste resulting in a more environmentally friendly product.

The present modifier is a granular reclaim comprised of industrial rubber crumb, preferably crumb from reinforced tyres, with the following characteristics: a gel fraction content of 73-85%, an average molecular weight of natural rubber in sol of 87500-131600 standard units, and a mass fraction of natural rubber of not less than 50%. An elastomer-bitumen binder contains said modifier and has the following ratio of components: 5-25 wt% elastomeric modifier and the remainder to 100% petroleum bitumen. The result is an improvement in all of the end properties of the elastomer-bitumen binder, and more particularly an increase in hardness, softening point and elasticity and a decrease in breaking point, thus improving the characteristics of asphalt concretes.

Added to that base is about 0.5 to about 5 percent by weight of a benzothiazole-based devulcanizing agent, about 0.3 to about 3 percent by weight of a C 14 -C 18 heavy metal soap such as a zinc stearate, about 0.1 to about 3 percent by weight of an antiozonant, and about 0.1 to about 20 percent of a plasticizer such as a heavy oil. The additive polymer is used for producing an asphalt of superior quality, including lower initial viscosity and improved wear resistance.
