The present invention is a coating containing approximately 10% glass beads used to protect wood products. Applicant has discovered that the best performance occurs when the concentration of glass beads in the coating ranges from 5 wt % to 10 wt %. A shelf-stable paste is first prepared by combining a polyether-based dispersant and a synthetic layered silicate. That paste is then mixed with a binder to form the coating. Preferably, the concentration of glass beads in the paste ranges from 60 wt % to 80 wt %, the concentration of polyether-based dispersant ranges from 20 wt % to 25 wt % and the concentration of synthetic layered silicate ranges from 1 wt % to 3 wt %.

Methods of preparing porous wood products for painting or finishing are described. Described herein are home care compositions comprising an alcohol alkoxylate surfactant and a polysaccharide gum, along with methods of making and using same. 1. A home care composition comprising an alcohol alkoxylate surfactant and a polysaccharide gum , wherein the weight ratio of the alcohol alkoxylate surfactant to the polysaccharide gum is greater than 0.9:1.2. The home care composition according to claim 1 , wherein the polysaccharide gum is a nonionic polysaccharide gum.3. The home care composition according to claim 1 , wherein the polysaccharide gum is selected from: xanthan gum; guar gum; locust bean gum; dammar gum; and tara gum.4. The home care composition according to claim 1 , wherein the polysaccharide gum comprises xanthan gum.5. The home care composition according to claim 1 , wherein the alcohol alkoxylate surfactant comprises an alcohol alkoxylate of the formula (I):{'br': None, 'sub': n', '2n+1', 'm', '2m', 'x, 'CH—O—(CH—O)—H\u2003\u2003(I)'}wherein n=6 to 18, m=2 to 4, and x=4 to 20.6. The home care composition according to claim 5 , wherein —CH— is selected from the group consisting of —CH—CH— claim 5 , ethylene claim 5 , —CH—CH—CH— claim 5 , n-propylene claim 5 , —CH(Me)-CH— claim 5 , —CH—CH(Me)- claim 5 , methylethylene claim 5 , and mixtures thereof.7. A method is shown for treating a wood substrate which both stains and simultaneously seals. First a sealant composition is formulated by combining a commercially and industrially sold stain with a micro-crystalline pre-mixture, the micro-crystalline pre-mixture being comprised of a micro-crystalline wax in an organic solvent blend. Next, the wood substrate is contacted with the sealant composition and the solvent blend is allowed to flash away, leaving a substantially solvent free micro-crystalline wax residue barrier. The solvent blend can be a mixture of hexane and xylene but is not limited to these two particular solvents. 1. A method for treating a wood substrate comprising the steps of:formulating a sealant composition by combining a commercially and industrially sold stain with a micro-crystalline pre-mixture, the micro-crystalline pre-mixture being comprised of a micro-crystalline wax in an organic solvent blend;contacting the wood substrate with the sealant composition and allowing the solvent blend to flash away, leaving a substantially solvent free micro-crystalline wax residue barrier.2. Thus, the composition of the present invention offers superior adhesiveness and waterproofness to various woods and can increase insulation properties of woods. Particularly, by applying the composition onto wood, the spreading operation using a brush becomes facilitated owing to the coffee waste powder or the coffee powder contained in the composition while creating specific gloss effects on the wood. According to the present invention, wood cracking is avoided by applying the composition onto the wood, and the composition can also extend a life span of the wood while increasing hardness thereof. Furthermore, inherent color of coffee can be implemented onto the wood as well.
