FIELD: additives and general purpose oils in internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: claimed method comprises polymerizing one or more vinyl monomer(s) selected from acrylates, methacrylates, styrene derivatives, maleates, fumarates and functionalized maleic anhydride to form polymeric substrate followed by grafted polymerization of one or more nitrogen containing monomer capable of being polymerized onto polymeric substrate in the presence of free radical initiator capable of detaching hydrogen atom, polymerization being carried out to at least 91% conversion of monomer to polymer to obtain polymeric substrate, and one or more nitrogen containing monomer capable of being polymerized is selected from vinyl pyridines, vinyl pyrroles, vinyl indoles, vinyl quinolines, vinyl isoquinolines, vinyl acrydines, vinyl pyrazines, vinyl pyrimidines, vinyl pyridazines, vinyl imidazoles, vinyl thiazoles, acrylamides, methacrylamides, dimethyl aminoethyl methacrylates, dimethyl aminoethylycrylate, N-vinyl carbazole, N-vinyl succinimide, acrylonitrile, -0-, m- and p-aminostyrene, maleimide, N-vinyl oxazolidine, N, N-dimethylamino-ethyl vinyl ether, 2-ethyl-2-cyanocrylate, N-vinyl phthalimide, N-vinylbenzyl dimethylamine, N- methacryloxyethylphorpholine and N- dimethylaminopropylamine maleimide.
