A cam shaft and composite cam with outer surfaces impregnated with a solid lubricant

A composite cam 84, comprising least two layers, and a cam shaft 70 have an outer porous layer impregnated with a solid lubricant 50 having an affinity to oil to reduce operating friction. The solid lubricant may be graphite and molybdenum disulphide in a matrix of metal or polymer composition. Cam 84, formed by powder metallurgy, has an inner layer 90 of eg soft/low carbon steel and the outer layer has hardened base circle and lobe portions 86, 88 of porous medium/high carbon Ni-Cr alloy steel. Alternatively the outer layer may be made porous by the addition of an arc plasma spray coating of a hard material, eg tungsten carbide. An anodised surface of aluminium or magnesium alloy provides the outer porous layer for the cam shaft 70 and bearing members 80 which are provided with a plurality of grooves 82. Cam 84 is assembled on the shaft 70 by expanding, eg hydraulically, the shaft's outer diameter. Also disclosed is the surface treatment of a valve guide and tappet.

Antiadhesive and self-lubricating coating composition

The composition contains powdered polytetrafluoroethylene and a polyamide/imide resin in solution in an organic solvent. The composition may additionally contain a diluent and pigments and inorganic fillers. For coating metal surfaces or those made of materials withstanding a temperature of at least 220 DEG C, the composition is applied onto the previously degreased surface and the coating obtained is heated to a temperature of between 220 and 260 DEG C for 10 to 15 min to perform the polymerisation of the polyamide/imide resin. The coating thus obtained is free from pores and exhibits both good antiadhesive and self-lubricating properties and also a sufficient heat resistance and an excellent corrosion resistance.

The wire drawing process includes the steps of descaling a wire to be drawn, coating the descaled wire with a lubricant, and drawing the lubricant-coated wire through a drawing die. The descaling step is conducted in a mechanical manner. At the lubricant coating step, the descaled wire is once coated with lime powder and then with metallic soap powder. Thus. the three steps recited are conducted under dry and continuous conditions. A method and composition for reducing wear on surfaces subjected to frictional forces. The lubricating compositions can be applied in a carrier which may be organic or inorganic in nature. They function by providing a regime in which multimolecular layers are adsorbed onto the surfaces to be protected, thus enabling comparatively thick protective films to be built up on the surfaces subjected to fractional wear. The molecules having the property are essentially single or condensed unsaturated ring systems which comprise at least one six-membered unsaturated heterocyclic ring comprising at least one heterocyclic moiety which acts as a hydrogen acceptor and a hydrogen donor moiety. If substituents are present they should not create steric hindrance and/or render the molecule so basic or acidic as to alter the steric geometry of the molecule as to prevent the interaction of the active groups.

The resin composition comprises a first polymer formed by the reaction of 1,2,4,5-pyromellitic dianhydride and polyetheramine; and a second polymer formed by the reaction of polyetheramine and vinyl chloride, wherein the second polymer is a photosensitive polymer. The novel resin composition provided by the present invention can be coated on drilling auxiliary plates. When the drilling auxiliary plates coated with the resin composition are used in a drilling process, it can avoid the coated resin being cracked due to the heat caused by friction of high speed drilling, so it can further enhance the stability, accuracy, and precision of drilling.

The lubricant is composed of a polyimide derived from 2,2-bis[4-(4-amino- phenoxy)phenyl]hexafluoropropane ("4-BDAF") and an aromatic tetracarboxylic acid (or dianhydride or ester thereof) containing fluorinated carbon.

A method and composition for reducing wear on surfaces subjected to frictional forces. The lubricating compositions can be applied in a carrier which may be organic or inorganic in nature. They function by providing a regime in which multimolecular layers are adsorbed onto the surfaces to be protected, thus enabling comparatively thick protective films to be built up on the surfaces subjected to frictional wear. The molecules having this property are essentially single or condensed unsaturated ring systems which comprise at least one six-membered unsaturated heterocyclic ring comprising at least one heterocyclic moiety which acts as a hydrogen acceptor and a hydrogen donor moiety. If substituents are present they should not create steric hindrance and/or render the molecule so basic or acidic as to alter the steric geometry of the molecule as to prevent the interaction of the active groups.
