A road repair vehicle has an engine for powering the vehicle, a plurality of wheels, and a shelter structure supported above a road by the wheels, the shelter structure forming an enclosure for providing shelter to one or more road repair workers, the shelter structure having an open bottom to enable the one or more road repair workers to access the road to be repaired. The vehicle may be used to repair potholes. The vehicle includes a sensor for detecting a worker in a work area of the shelter structure and for automatically disabling at least one vehicle system in response to detecting the worker in the work area. 1. A road repair vehicle comprising:an engine for powering the vehicle;a plurality of wheels;a shelter structure supported above a road by the wheels, the shelter structure forming an enclosure for providing shelter to one or more road repair workers, the shelter structure having an open bottom to enable the one or more road repair workers to access the road to be repaired; anda sensor for detecting a worker in a work area of the shelter structure and for automatically disabling at least one vehicle system in response to detecting the worker in the work area.2. A system and method for determining and controlling a speed of a conveyor belt configured for transferring material from a source of the material to a haul vehicle includes a motor and associated head pulley shaft operatively coupled to a conveyor belt head pulley configured for driving the conveyor belt. The motor is connected to a conveyor belt tensioner block configured to enable adjustment of a tension in the conveyor belt, and the head pulley shaft is rotatably supported within the conveyor belt tensioner block. A speed ring gear is mounted on the head pulley shaft and located at least partially within a bore through the conveyor belt tensioner block. A speed sensor is mounted on the conveyor belt tensioner block in a position radially outward from teeth of the speed ring gear as the speed ring gear and head pulley shaft rotate within the bore through the belt tensioner block. The speed sensor is configured to generate signals indicative of the speed of rotation of the head pulley shaft and speed ring gear. A system controller determines a speed of the conveyor belt from the speed of rotation of the head pulley shaft and speed ring gear, and controls the speed of the conveyor belt to control an amount and rate of transfer of material along the conveyor belt from the source of material to the haul vehicle during a time period.

The belt bodies also feature a wider unloading belt as compared to conventional steel live-bottom trucks, which increases efficiency, reduces unloading time and generates faster cycle times. The wider bottom lowers the center of gravity of the vehicle, resulting in more stability and safety. Furthermore, a wider body with sloped side walls reduces and/or eliminates the effects of transportation segregation of the asphalt or aggregate being hauled. An improved geometry for flights used in rotary drums of aggregate dryers in the manufacture of asphalt causes the aggregate to shower in an even veil across the full width of the drum under all loading conditions. An opening in the flight having a narrow bottom and wider top allows more aggregate to shower early, especially when flights are lightly loaded, on the uplift side of the drum to complete the aggregate veil and prevent hot gases from bypassing. The opening is oriented with its narrow bottom nearest the inner surface of the drum and its wider top farthest therefrom. The opening does not extend through the full height of the flight, which would form an undesired gap allowing an excessive volume of aggregate to flood out of fully loaded flights on the uplift side of rotation. Such flooding discharge causes a similar imbalance of drying to that caused by too little discharge from light loaded flights. The size and shape of the opening can be varied to adjust the amount of aggregate discharged from each flight to form the veil and to adjust the shape of the veil. 1. Liquid sealant material is poured by volume into a container draped with a sheet.
