External skins can be applied to this core without danger of deformation. Individual cell elements can be joined to build up the required cellular core structure. Composite building panels and a method for manufacturing a composite building panel are disclosed. A preferred embodiment of a composite building panel comprises a cold rolled steel frame and at least one reinforcing stud. The stud of the preferred embodiment is located within the space defined by the frame and coupled to the frame at the stud's base. The exemplary stud comprises two flanges extending from the base. The flanges of the preferred stud each have a lip at an end distal to the base bent toward each other. Experiments show that the lips on the flanges of the reinforcing studs significantly increase the structural strength of a composite building panel. An alternate preferred embodiment of another composite building panel comprises two boards and at least one reinforcing stud. The exemplary boards face opposite directions, are coupled to each other, and form a space between the two boards.

Method of making a wavy wood element (B) from a wood element •(A), wherein the method comprises at least steps (H1) to (H4): •(H1) providing a wood element (A), which comprises fibers and lignin on or between said fibers; •(H2) heating the wood element (A) to a temperature which is sufficient to soften or melt at least a part of the lignin; •(H3) deforming the wood element heated in step (H2) such that a wavy wood element (B) is formed; •(H4) cooling the wood element deformed in step (H3); characterized in that the deforming in step (H3) is performed such that the ratio of the wave height to the thickness of the wavy wood element (B) equals or is more than 2:1; wherein the term “thickness” signifies the shortest distance between an upper side and the respective lower side of the wavy wood element (B), and the term “wave height” signifies the shortest distance between two imaginary planes which run in parallel to one another between which the wavy wood element (B) may be arranged such that the waves are positioned between said planes; and wherein the wood element (A) consists of unglued wood or unglued wood fibers.

Truss core panels comprising face sheets and a core, formed of adjoining tubes having an equilateral triangular cross-sectional shape, are disclosed. The face sheets are formed of either a homogeneous material (e.g., a metal, such as aluminum or titanium); or, a composite material, such as a laminate formed of bonded plies. The plies are woven from suitably strong fibers (e.g., glass or graphite), bonded together by a suitable resin. The tubes are also formed of either a homogeneous material or laminated from suitably strong fibers bonded together by a resin. Depending upon the material used, the tubes can be either formed by pultrusion or by machine winding on mandrels and cured. The tubes may be formed of the same material as the face sheets or different materials. Stiffening ribs and the like are formed by including additional layers of tubes. Further, the tubes may be filled continuously or intermittently, as desired, to accommodate fasteners. Since the tubes are equilateral triangles in cross-sectional shape, assembly of the tubes in one or more layers is fast and, therefore, inexpensive.
