A hydraulic pump comprises ( 1 ) an outward ring ( 24 ), including demountable blocks ( 30 ) comprising piston cylinders ( 32 ), and an inward ring ( 21 ), comprising a ring cam ( 23 ), coupled through a drive shaft ( 8 ) to the blades of a turbine ( 4 ). To enable maintenance, the outward ring is decoupled from a torque limiting device ( 16, 17 ) and rotated relative to the inward ring. Demountable blocks are then removed from the outward ring using a crane ( 61 ) including a line ( 62 ) extending from above the centre of mass of the demountable block and including a resilient portion ( 66 ) so that although the crane supplies the majority of the force required to remove the demountable block, an operator provides some force, enabling the process to be controlled. The method is suitable for maintaining large hydraulic pumps in wind turbine nacelles ( 2 ).

A fluid end with an internal bellows can be used in high pressure environments. The bellows is disposed within a plunger bore, and has an interior isolated from a working chamber of the fluid end. An end of a plunger is received in the interior of the bellows. The bellows contains an incompressible fluid at a constant volume. As the plunger extends into the interior of the bellows, the fluid it contains is displaced. Such fluid displacement causes the bellows to extend. As the plunger is retracted, the fluid replaces the volume formerly displaced by the plunger, and causes the bellows to accordion to a retracted position.

A method includes determining a rotational position of a crankshaft in a multiplex pump from one or more sensors disposed on the crankshaft, determining a position of each of a plurality of pistons along a corresponding pump bore in relation to a total stroke length of each piston and a connecting rod length, calculating an individual theoretical displaced volume of fluid for each of the pump bores in the multiplex pump based on the rotational position of the crankshaft, and summing the individual theoretical displaced volumes to determine a total theoretical pumped volume by the multiplex pump. A calibration method includes determination of the multiplex pump efficiency versus speed and discharge pressure, and the effect of pump leakage and valve closing delay on the pump efficiency. Verification of the pump performance and efficiency may be controlled during pumping to insure the validity of the last calibration data set.

The flow bores of the fluid end are sealed without threading a retainer nut into the walls of each bore. Instead, the flow bores are sealed by bolting a retainer to the fluid end body.
