The weights are longer than the overall length of the rolls and journals. When changing the roll the weight of the counterweights is taken, with the upper roll in its lowest position, on chains 10 which are then transferred by a crane from hooks 12 to hooks 13, thus slackening the members 4. The base of the millstand is closed to prevent the entry of scale, water, &c.

The motor drives the crown gear which has an upwardly projecting eccentric drive pin which drivingly engages the channel fixed on the spindle which reciprocates in the fixed tube and supports a saw blade. The induced vibration is counterbalanced by the reciprocating counterbalance which slides on the outside of the tube. The crown gear has a cylindrical drive member which engages the cylindrical hole in the transfer block. The transfer block is moved in an orbital path and the opposed parallel sides engage and reciprocate the counterweight. The crown gear and cylindrical drive member have material removed to counterbalance the two drives.

The balance gear and crankshaft gear are in meshed engagement. The balance gear is formed by a series of sectors connected by a series of resilient blocks, with each sector defining first and second recesses along opposite radial edges sized to receive adjacent blocks, respectively. Each elastomeric block is configured to deform both normally and in shear thereby providing damping for the gear. A gear such as the balance gear, and a method of forming the gear are also provided.

For this purpose, in a local vibration absorber including interconnected metal mass in form of a metal plate and elastic layer from polymer film between metal plate and frequency f oscillating damped structure, according to the invention, the metal plate has thickness h making from 0.2 to 0.5 of the thickness of the dampened structure, length l, which is determined by value from half to one length of bending wave in metal plate at frequency f, and width b defined by value of not less than 0.1 of its length l. Geometric center of the plate is spaced from the point with the highest level of vibration at a distance not exceeding 0.1 of the length of the bending wave in the damped structure at frequency f. Besides, the polymer film used is a polymer film of polyvinyl acetate having thickness of 0.2 mm to 1.5 mm. A gravity compensation device partially or completely compensates a force exerted by a basic mass (10) on a balancing device (12) at a first distance from an axis of rotation (13) by using a force generating device, such as spring (14), exerting a counterforce on the balancing device at a second distance from the axis of rotation. The first distance, the second distance, or both are selectable for providing the desired gravity compensation. One or more pulleys with an angle-variable radius may be used. The gravity compensation device does not add substantial mass to the basic mass, and is simple in design.
