FIELD: power industry. ^ SUBSTANCE: device for mixing and supplying gases, fluids or mixtures of gases and fluids to hot reaction volume consists at least of one metal tube with the end opened on the side of reaction volume and connected to system of supply of basic substances to the device; surface of metal tube is enclosed with layer of heat-insulating refractory material, which is located along axis of metal tube from its end facing the reaction volume and wall thickness of metal tube of which is 0.1 to 3 mm; at that, wall thickness of metal tube is continuously increased opposite the flow movement. Heat-insulating refractory material envelops metal tube throughout its length. Heat-insulating refractory material represents mass for slip casting, or for packing, or non-woven material from heat-resistant fibres. Metal tube is made from the material providing its protection against the so called "metal misting" corrosion type. Metal tube is made of disperse alloy strengthened with oxide. Temperature of initial substances supplied to reaction volume is 100 to 700C, preferably 200 to 600C. Initial substances supplied to reaction volume are hydrocarbons or air, or air saturated with oxygen, or technically pure oxygen, or water vapour, or hydrogen, or carbon dioxide, or carbon monoxide. More than 80 vol. % of initial substance supplied to reaction volume consists of methane. The operating life of a fuel injector nozzle for a gasifier is prolonged by shielding the fuel injector nozzle with a preformed protective insulating sheath before the fuel injector nozzle is installed inside a preheated reaction chamber of the gasifier. The thermal insulating sheath has low thermal conductivity and is placed around the fuel injector nozzle body. The thermal sheath can also be positioned to cover a downstream end of the fuel injector nozzle that includes a nozzle portion. The thermal insulating sheath is supported by ceramic rope, solder or metal wire and is gradually consumable in the environs of the reaction chamber immediately after the fuel injector nozzle is installed. Before the thermal sheath is consumed, it moderates the temperature rise rate of the fuel injector nozzle while the fuel injector nozzle is being installed in the gasifier.

In accordance with some embodiments of the present invention, low-E coatings may be applied to the flare tip burner as well as associated internal and/or external component surfaces to reduce direct flame radiation and also conductive heat transfer. The low-E coating material preferably has an emissivity of less than about 0.80, more preferably between about 0.20 to about 0.78. The coating thickness of the low-E material is preferably between about 1 mil to about 25 mils, and more preferably between about 2 mils to about 8 mils. Coating densities of the low- E material in the coating will preferably be at least about 65%, more preferably between about 80% to about 100%.

There is at least one resilient anchoring strip extending between the ceramic matrix and the housing about the perimeter of the ceramic matrix to retain the ceramic matrix in place within the housing and seal the edges of the ceramic matrix. An inlet to the housing is provided to admit a gas/air combustion mixture to the chamber. The gas/air mixture passes through the ceramic matrix to burn adjacent the external surface of the ceramic matrix to heat the external surface to incandescence. The resilient anchoring strip is adapted to expand or contract to accommodate relative movement of the ceramic matrix with respect to the housing due to heating expansion of the housing. In another embodiment, the edge of the ceramic matrix is sealed with a blocking agent to prevent flame propagation from the external surface of the matrix to the side walls, and a heat resistant layer is provided between the ceramic matrix and the housing to limit heat distribution to the housing and thereby thermal expansion of the housing.

METHOD FOR FIRING A ROTARY KILN WITH PULVERIZED SOLID FUEL ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Disclosed is a method for firing a kiln as well as a method for producing cement clinker in which pulverized coal is initially entrained in an airflow of about 2% of the theoretical amount of air needed to combust the coal and transport it to a burner. Supplemental primary air heated sufficiently to vaporize volatiles in the coal is mixed with the coal flow in a burner, discharged into the kiln and hence ignited. Secondary combustion air heated to between 800°F to 1650°F and more is added in the kiln to effect the substan-tially complete combustion of the pulverized coal in the kiln.

Exemplary embodiments are disclosed, showing a unitary swirler (200) made by using a rapid manufacturing process. In one aspect of the invention, the rapid manufacturing process is a laser sintering process.

Expanding upon thi s, an increase in performance and an improvement in the economic viability of t he method are attained by introducing a drop stream containing fuel into the reactor at the same time as the drop stream containing the residual substanc e and feeding it to a pre-reaction zone, which is produced by introducing an oxygen-rich gas stream, whereby the residual substance is, in part, thermall y cleaved inside the pre-reaction zone and is subsequently fed to the reaction zone. An atomizing burner, which is suited for carrying out said method and which has a long serviceable life, is characterized in that a protective gas nozzle, which coaxially surrounds the inner nozzle, is provided between said inner nozzle and the outer nozzle, and in that the inner nozzle is connected to an inlet for a residual substance/fuel mixture, and the outer nozzle is connected to an inlet for an oxygen-rich gas stream.

The operating life of a fuel injector nozzle (10) for a gasifier is prolonged by shielding the fuel injector nozzle (10) with a preformed protective insulating sheath (70) before the fuel injector nozzle (10) is installed inside a preheated reaction chamber of the gasifier. The thermal insulating sheath (70) has low thermal conductivity and is placed around the fuel injector nozzle body. The thermal sheath (70) can also be positioned to cover a downstream end (16) of the fuel injector nozzle (10) that includes a nozzle portion (40). The thermal insulating sheath (70) is supported by ceramic rope, solder or metal wire and is gradually consumable in the environs of the reaction chamber immediately after the fuel injector nozzle (10) is installed. Before the thermal sheath (70) is consumed, it moderates the temperature rise rate of the fuel injector nozzle (10) while the fuel injector nozzle (10) is being installed in the gasifier.

The burners are installed in burner holes (26) formed in the crown (20) of a furnace and form a seal with those holes so that ambient air cannot be entrained into the furnace through the holes.
