THERMOPLASTIC SIGHT MONITOR A liquid sight monitor includes a translucent thermoplastic viewing tubular element having ends that are flared, after the tube is inserted through the central holes of flanges located at either end, to secure the viewing element in place. A float may be included in the viewing element of the same material and cup shaped to entrap air so that the float rises to the level of the fluid surface, even though it is otherwise heavier than the fluid. A flow-through restrictor disk prevents the float from falling out the bottom of the viewing element when there is an absence of fluid therein. The monitor may have a protective see-through shield connected between its top and bottom flanges, if desired.

A combined ultrasonic signal receiver/transmitter with an attached reflector is immersed in the liquid. An ultrasonic signal is then transmitted from the receiver/transmitter and reflected ultrasonic signals are then received. One of the reflected signals is reflected off of the attached reflector and this reflected signal is then used to determine the signal's velocity and to thereby self-calibrate the system. Once the velocity in the liquid is known, the other reflected signals can then be used to determine the distance between the receiver/transmitter and at least one point of interest in the container.

The apparatus operates by passing liquid through the body. As liquid in the source of liquid is depleted and is no longer available for passage through the body, the body becomes emptied of liquid as the source of pressure removes liquid from the body and particularly from the chamber causing the float to reach a position generating a signal.

A combined ultrasonic signal receiver/transmitter with an attached reflector is immersed in the liquid. An ultrasonic signal is then transmitted from the receiver/transmitter and reflected ultrasonic signals are then received. One of the reflected signals is reflected off of the attached reflector and this reflected signal is then used to determine the signal's velocity and to thereby self-calibrate the system. Once the velocity in the liquid is known, the other reflected signals can then be used to determine the distance between the receiver/transmitter and at least one point of interest in the container.

A system and method for measuring fluids include a vessel containing at least two fluids with a drain pipe, a seal housing, a tool assembly, and a float assembly. The seal housing fits onto the drain pipe of existing vessels or tanks, and the tool assembly and float assembly are inserted through the seal housing to the vessel to measure the fluids inside the tank. The tool assembly has a shaft section and a flexible section. The flexible section extends into the vessel and through any bend in the drain pipe so that the system is compatible with retrofitting vessels with different drain pipe shapes. The float assembly can be released from the end of the bent drain pipe to float to the fluid boundary between different fluids in the vessel. The float assembly can also be retracted to safe position within the seal housing.

When the water level in a clothing or dish washing machine rises beyond its normal level, it flows into a float chamber causing a float to rise carrying a permanent magnet with it. The magnetic field is then insufficient to hold a ferrous valve which drops into its seating in the water flow chamber, blocking the outlet, the rapid rise in water press. causing membranes to seal the water channel. The purpose is to provide an accurate water level monitor, with rapid cut-off in the water input, in a system unaffected by dirt or corrosion.

The position of a float indicates the level of liquid in a reservoir. The position is detected from the time interval between an input current pulse to a magnetic assembly and the subsequent mechanical pulse it generates. A stainless steel conductor (1) is anchored (2) in the base of the reservoir (3) and is maintained in position by a compression spring (4). The spring is isolated by an insulating ring (5). A semi-circular magnet (9) on the float concentrates the flux in the conductor. Other magnets (12,14) are located just below the lowest level and just above the highest level resp. Current pulses from a generator (16) are detected in the conductor by a coil (17). A piezoelectric microphone (18) senses the mechanical pulse generated as the current pulse passes the float assembly and a counter (20) determines the float position.

The oil level indicator for the sump of an automobile engine consists of a cylinder (B) which is connected to the sump (C) by a pump (T). The sump drain plug is replaced by a banjo type connector (K) which is connected to the end of the pipe. A cylindrical float (F) slides on a wire guide (G) inside the cylinder. A bolt, with an insulating sleeve passes through the plug (P1) of the cylinder. The bolt is connected to a warning lamp. When the oil level falls the metal undersurface (R) of the float (F) touches the tip of the bolt and connects it to earth so that the warning light is switched on.

Applications : Mesures des niveaux des nappes de liquide dans le domaine de la géologie, aménagement et gestion des eaux souterraines, etc.
