In that regard, the force uptake element ( 14 ) is secured on a machine frame ( 2 ) and the holding element ( 6 ) is secured on the force introduction element ( 15 ). The invention is characterized in that the force uptake element ( 14 ) is embodied as an outwardly lying ring element ( 14 ) and the force introduction element is embodied as a coaxially inwardly lying ring element ( 15 ), between which at least one radially spring-elastic connecting web ( 17, 18 ) is arranged as the deformation body. An apparatus and method for continuously monitoring the weight of an object are disclosed. The apparatus does not obstruct a central portion of the bottom of the object being monitored, and is especially well-suited for monitoring the weight of a beehive. In the illustrative embodiment, a ring-shaped fluid-filled bladder is sandwiched between a ring-shaped top surface and a ring-shaped base, and a pressure hose connects the bladder to a pressure gauge. Beehive weight data can be obtained in a continuous fashion, without requiring any moving of the beehive or of the apparatus, and without any other type of disruption. Moreover, the apparatus provides a stable platform that keeps the beehive immobile during monitoring, which is beneficial for the health of the colony. Advantageously, the apparatus can be constructed from inexpensive, off-the-shelf components and materials, and is capable of obtaining accurate measurements over a wide range of temperatures and environmental conditions.

A method for weighing sliced products to generate product batches of a pre-determined weight. A slicer slices products which are disposed onto a slice scale located beneath the output end of the slicer. An intermediate weight is measured at a pre-determined point in the slicing process. The intermediate weight information is used to calculate the minimum number of completion slices, based on thicknesses of the slices, needed to meet the target weight. The competed draft is transferred to a check sale where a final draft weight is measured and compared to a sum of the intermediate weight and the weight of the completion slices. Comparison of the weight is used to adjust slicing parameters for more precise targeting of the desired weight of the next draft. Completion slices may be adjusted in thickness to minimize the giveaway weight.

A measurement apparatus for weight measuring composite sheet including a sheet material having a second material thereon as a coating and/or as embedded particles therein. The apparatus includes an x-ray sensor for providing an x-ray signal from x-ray irradiating the composite sheet and an infrared (IR) sensor for providing an IR signal from IR irradiating the composite sheet. A sterile scale is described suitable for automated use in animal cages. A case is covered by a flexible membrane that provides both sealing against pathogens and mechanical compliance for transfer of weight on an above weighing platform through a single sealed penetration in the membrane to a load cell in the case. An automation system for tracking beverage consumption and methods of its operation are provided herein. The automation system monitors the consumption of beverages with a focus on beverages, such as beer, cider and wine, that are housed in a barrel-like container such as a beer keg. The automation system consists of a sensor plate, cloud application service or local application services, communications services, real-time display, and integration with a mobile form factor. The sensor plate includes electronics, such as weight sensors, battery voltage sensors, and environmental sensors, as well as software to calculate the volume of the beverage based on data captured from the sensors and on-board algorithms. An improved fruit tester and method provides a plunger intrusion-type mechanism, a precision scale and an associated computer for control of the mechanism and for recordation, presentation and analysis of data sensed by the mechanism.
