The non-locking and locking two way rocker switch is primarily intended for operating sliding sun roofs in cars. The switch can be locked for full opening or closure of the sunroof or pressed so that it restores automatically to neutral after release of pressure and the roof has been moved the desired small amount. The switch (39) moves a central sprung (51) plunger (50) to either side so that it operates the contact rocker (40). The plunger moves from its central neutral point on the rocker (40) to a side shoulder (42) for non lock operation and into a recess (43,44) for lock position. On operation of the toggle lever the rod 4 rocks pushing the member 3 downwards to disengage bridging contacts 8 from their cooperating fixed contacts 9, 10. The pivot pin 5 is off-set from the median plane of the toggle lever 6 so that the member 3 is held depressed when the toggle is in the " off " position. The toggle lever 6 pivots about projections engaging recesses in the cover.

The ends of springs 7 and 8 engage in recesses 9 and 10 in plate 5 and act on lips 11 and 12 therein. Contacts may be provided on the springs as shown, or a separate contact pile-up may be operated by the springs via a card or comb.

As shown, a U-shaped contact bridge 12 pivoted in the walls of the body, co-operates with a pair of contacts, such as 11, at one or both ends of a recess in the body. The operating member is of circular section and can rotate about its longitudinal axis, but it may have a flat co-operating with the side of the slot 27 to prevent such rotation.

A controller for a camera crane has a rocker button pivotally supported in or on a controller housing about a first pivot axis. A shaft of an electrical component, such as a variable resistor, is on a second pivot axis spaced apart from the first pivot axis. An arm is attached to the shaft. A spring urges the arm to a center position. Movement of the rocker button moves the arm. Due to the offset of the first and second pivot axes, movement of the rocker button results in proportionally reduced movement of the shaft of the electronic component. Smooth crane arm movements are readily achieved as the controller is less sensitive to the operators hand or finger movements.

A rocker-type electrical switch of the kind known as a "quiet switch" includes a manually depressible rocker having two opposed contact surfaces at a small angle to each other from which rocker depends a rocker arm terminating in a rocker cam. A slider positioned intermediately of the rocker and the rocker cam is moved back and forth by side-to-side movements of the rocker arm and opens and closes one or more pairs of contacts. Rocker movement is controlled by a rocker cam leaf spring engaging the rocker cam which spring has a cammed profile traversed by the rocker cam to slow the switch, lock the rocker and provide other desirable effects. The rocker cam spring is housed in a spring chamber longer than itself, allowing the rocker cam spring to float.
