The host device has a device connector for forming a mating connection with a respective peripheral connector. A source of bias 102 is arranged to supply an electrical bias to a device microphone contact 117 of the device connector via a biasing path. A capacitor 225 is connected between a reference voltage (ground) node and a capacitor node 304 of the biasing path. A first switch 301 is located between the capacitor node 304 and the device microphone contact 117. Detection circuitry (602, fig 6a) detects disconnection of the peripheral connector and device connector; and control circuitry (601, fig 6a) controls the switch to disable the biasing path within 100µs. This removal of the bias voltage from the connector is said to reduce the occurrence of undesirable clicks or pops. Several embodiments of the invention are discussed.

Disclosed are techniques to automatically determine an audio path for a peripheral speaker. A wireless device uses particular wireless-communication methods or techniques, referred to as an audio path, to wirelessly communicate audio data to a speaker system for playback by a peripheral speaker. The device selects an audio path and attempts to send audio data representing known audio to the speaker system using the selected audio path. If a microphone of the device receives the known audio, then the device determines that the selected audio path is supported by the speaker system and thus can be used to communicate audio data to the peripheral speaker. However, if the microphone does not receive the known audio, then the device repeats the selecting of an audio path and attempting to send audio data to the speaker system using the newly selected audio path.

An analog-to-digital converter (ADC) may include capability to sense and/or compensate for undesired effects when receiving input from a microphone. For example, a sense node may be provided between differential inputs, and that sense node separated from the differential inputs by two or more switches. The sense node may allow for a measurement of an average voltage of the differential inputs. The average voltage may be obtained activating the switches to sample the sampling capacitors coupled to the differential inputs. That average voltage may be used as common mode (CM) data. A controller may receive the CM data, along with differential mode (DM) data, and use the CM and DM data to determine undesired effects, such as DC or AC mismatch at the microphone interface. The controller may then generate a signal for applying compensation to the differential inputs to reduce or eliminate the undesired effects. 1.
