The present invention relates to an electrolyte for a lithium secondary battery, which comprises an organic solvent containing a C3 to C5 alkyl propionate, a lithium salt, and a compound represented by the chemical formula 1, and to a lithium secondary battery comprising the same. In the chemical formula 1, k, l, and m are each independently an integer of 0 to 20, k, l, and m are selected so that the chemical formula 1 has an asymmetric structure, n is an integer from 1 to 7, and R_1, R_2, R_3, R_4, R_5, and R_6 are independently of each other hydrogen, an alkyl group, an alkoxy group or a fluoroalkyl group. The electrolyte for a lithium secondary battery according to an exemplary embodiment is excellent in impregnation with an active material and mobility of lithium ions, and suppresses side reactions with a positive electrode, thereby effectively suppressing generation of gas under high temperature conditions.
