The present invention relates to a genetic marker for detecting an extra small virus (XSV), and to a method for detecting a virus by using the same. More specifically, according to the method of the present invention, a specific nucleic acid of an XSV is amplified, and a peptide nucleic acid (PNA) for specifically recognizing an amplified product is hybridized. Then, melting curves for each temperature are obtained by adjusting the temperature of a hybridized product, and an XSV is detected from a melting temperature by analyzing the obtained melting curves or it is confirmed whether a shrimp is infected by the virus. According to the present invention, an XSV is simply, rapidly, and accurately detected, so infection of the virus and diffusion of white tail disease caused by the virus, which are recognized as the biggest threat in shrimp culture, can be blocked in the early stage.
