A method for post-synthesis modification of colloidal nanocrystals includes (1) providing a first nanocrystal having a first size and a first shape, (2) forming a reaction mixture that includes the nanocrystal, at least one ligand capable of binding to at least one component of the nanocrystal, at least one solvent, and an inert gas atmosphere, and (3) modifying the size and/or shape of the nanocrystal in the reaction mixture for a period of time at a temperature in a range from about 100° C. to about 240° C. so as to produce at least a second nanocrystal having a second size and/or a second shape.

The invention is intended to provide a construction element which can be used horizontally or vertically as drainage element in earthworks, groundworks and water engineering. It is the aim and object of the invention to manufacture a construction element which ensures efficient drainage and filtering and also damming and blocking effect. The structure of the linear textile products permits elastic or minimal permanent deformation without adverse effect on the water flow. According to the invention, compact linear textile products are strung close together in a parallel arrangement and bonded together by adhering or a yarn-bonding technique, and water-impermeable sheaths are incorporated, creating a blocking effect. The compact structure of the linear textile products ensures a mechanical damming function and the water-impermeable sheaths and the elongate capillary structure also ensure adequate directed water flow. The elimination of air circulation prevents ferric encrustation. To obtain an intensive filtering and draining function it is possible to apply in addition a water-permeable filter layer to the construction element.

Copolymers of ethylene, 30 to 80% by weight vinyl acetate and 0.02 to 0.5% by weight based on the vinyl acetate of a divinyl ester of a C2- 10 saturated aliphatic or C8- 12 aromatic dicarboxylic acid may be prepared by polymerizing the monomers in the presence of a radical addition polymerization catalyst at 10 DEG to 200 DEG C. and pressures greater than 10 atmospheres. Specified divinyl esters are divinyl oxalate, succinate, adipate, azelate, sebacate, phthalate and terephthalate, and 1 to 30 weight per cent of other monomers, e.g. monovinyl esters, monovinyl ethers, vinyl halides and N-vinyl lactams, may also be used. Specified catalysts are lauroyl, acetyl, benzoyl and dichlorobenzoyl peroxides, peroxydicarbonates and azo compounds. Polymerization is preferably effected in the presence of liquid media containing t-butanol. When the reaction medium contains water it is preferably at a pH of 3 to 7. In examples ethylene, vinyl acetate and divinyl adipate are are copolymerized in t-butanol in the presence of (1) and (2) azodiisobutyronitrile and (4) lauroyl peroxide; and (3) ethylene, vinyl acetate, vinyl 3-chloropropionate and divinyl adipate are copolymerized in t-butanol in the presence of azodiisobutyronitrile. Copolymers of ethylene, vinyl acetate and divinyl adipate are compounded with (5) furnace black, dioctyl phthalate, stearic acid, phenyl-a -naphthylamine, triallyl cyanurate, dicumyl peroxide and calcium carbonate and extruded to form profiled sealing strips for windows, and (6) silicic acid stearic acid, triallyl cyanurate, dicumyl peroxide and calcium carbonate and extruded to form tubes.

An enhanced flight control system and method providing a technological improvement over a conventional flight control systems. A control module employs rules to determine whether or not a received traffic collision avoidance system (TCAS) evasive maneuver is automatically implemented. Specifically, the control module effectively couples the TCAS to the FMS, allowing access to the flight plan and to the navigation database and the approach procedures and runway data therein. An algorithm determines when there is a co-occurrence of the conditions (1) a flight plan uploaded in the FMS, (2) autopilot is engaged, (3) VNAV is engaged. Upon co-occurrence of (1) and (2) and (3), and an evasive maneuver is received from a TCAS, the control module determines whether or not to automatically implement the evasive maneuver. Look ahead algorithms may also analyse and modify the flight plan to preclude TCAS alerts and evasive procedures being required.

Combined open and closed loop power control with differential measurement

A power control system and method for a wireless telephone employs an open loop technique for relatively low power levels and a closed loop technique at higher power levels. In the open loop technique, a wireless telephone ( 104, 106, 108 ) stores a phasing table of automatic power control (APC) values for the power levels (which are used to control upconverter gain levels measured at different channels. In operation, a power controller ( 322 ) reads the power level and reads the APC value in the table. Another table stores the APC value for one power level as the channel and temperature are varied. This value is interpolated, as needed, during operation. The APC value for the open loop approach is determined by reading the input channel; finding the closest higher and closest lower channels in the temperature-channel table; interpolating between APC values for the temperature column of the closest lower temperature, to get the actual value. The difference between this value and the APC value for the actual power level in the phasing table is then obtained.

The reinforcement, which has the known warp-knit construction of fringe with weft, combines film threads at least in the weft thread system with lofty, fibrous threads whose mass fraction is at least 50%. The lofty, fibrous threads used can be flat nonwoven threads. The strength of the reinforcement is primarily due to the film threads, while the lofty threads contribute decisively to the stability and to the mass. These lofty threads are very absorbent and so ensure very good adhesion to the bituminous composition.

The aim of the invention is the extension of the field of application of glass piping and thus saving of stainless steel. The technical problem is to provide a stress-free reinforcement with protection against splintering effect in the event of an accident, without affecting the recognizability of the glass pipe. The solution according to the invention provides for the sheathing of the glass tubing with a taut, openwork, elastic knit structure, which can additionally be coated with substances that can be chemically or physically hardened. A touch-sensitive apparatus comprises a light transmissive panel (1), an illumination arrangement and a detection arrangement. The illumination arrangement is configured to couple light into the panel (1) via an incoupling site (5B) such that the light propagates by total internal reflection (TIR) in opposite top and bottom surfaces (4, 5) of the panel and such that an object touching the top or bottom surface (4, 5) causes a change in the propagating light. The detection arrangement comprises a light detector arranged to detect the change in the propagating light. A compact and robust incoupling site (5B) is defined by a sheet-like micro-structured surface portion (22) which is fixedly arranged on one of the top and bottom surfaces (4, 5) and configured to transmit light having an angle of incidence that enables light propagation by TIR inside the panel (1). The surface portion (22) may be integrated in the panel or implemented by a thin and flexible film (20) of light transmissive plastic material, formed with the micro-structured surface portion and adapted for attachment to the top or bottom surface (4, 5).

Polymerisable organic dispersions, suitable for the prodn. of low-shrinkage moulding compsns. curing to mouldings without forming deposits on the tool are prepd. opt. with the addn. of the usual amts. of polymersn. initiator, inhibitor and dispersant, from 5-76 (wt. %) alpha, beta-ethylenically unsatd. polyester (I), 20-70% comonomer (II) and 4-24% ethylene polymer (III), produced in aq. emulsion from (a) 15-99% C2H4., (b) 1-20% unsatd. sulphonic acid, alpha beta-unsatd. 2-8C mono- or di-carboxylic acid, ester, half-ester, (substd.) amide or half-amide, salt or hydroxyethylated deriv. of this and (c) 0-65% other comonomers. The dispersions are used in the prodn. of glass fibre reinforced plastics, e.g. for car body parts, large lamp housing, furniture etc. The mouldings have excellent surface quality, without sink marks over fixing lugs, and are uniform in colour, free from distortion and true to size. Extremely high amts. of filler can be used. The dispersions have satisfactory storage stability, but this can be improved further by adding dispersants.

GRAFT POLYMERS ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process for the preparation of graft polymers from ethylene homopolymers or copolymers and olefinically unsaturat-ed monomers, especially from ethylene/vinyl ester copolymers, in the presence of a radical forming agent in homogenous or heterogeneous phase, in which a mixture of (meth)acrylonitrile, at least one aromatic vinyl compound and vinylchloride are polymerized in the presence of an ethylene homopolymer or copolymer. The products obtained contain no ungrafted styrene/acrylonitrile copolymer and more than 80% by weight of the graft polymer is chemically almost uniform in structure. The products obtained according to the invention are eminently suitable for use as coating materials and as materials which can be thermoplastically processed.

Jede Stütze ist auf einem drehbar an der Maschine lagernden Tragstangenteilstück (6) befestigt, das durch ein zugehöriges Stellmittel (16) in eine Belastungsstellung für die Oberwalzen (3) und in eine sie von den Unterwalzen (3) abhebende Stellung gedreht werden kann. Das Stellmittel (16) wird durch einen Wächter (32), der dem aus dem Streckwerk auslaufenden Material (31) zugeordnet ist, so geschaltet, daß es bei Materialbruch das Tragstangenteilstück (6) aus seiner Belastungsstellung für die Oberwalzen (14) in die sie von den Unterwalzen (3) abhebende Stellung dreht und zugleich eine der Lunte (131) am Streckwerkseingang zugeordnete Klemmvorrichtung (36) einschaltet.
