Measured quantities, delivering.-An adjustable water-supply tap, which can be adapted for use as a ball-and-float valve, as a flushing-valve for water closets, or as a measuring-valve for tanks or cisterns, is shown in Fig 1. A conical facing H is secured on the valve A, which slides in a chamber C connected by a passage T to the inlet V. The spindle L carries a disc valve M, which works against a seat formed on the valve A. The valve is normally closed by the pressure on the top of the valve. When the spindle is pushed upwards, the disc valve is opened and water escapes through the valve A. A shoulder P on the spindle then engages with and lifts the valve A. The supply of water to the chamber C is regulated by a plug valve U according to the pressure of the system. The valve may be adapted for supplying a measured quantity of water to a tank or cistern.

Lubricators.-A multiple-delivery lubricator of the condensation type for lubricating the cylinders of steam-engines for locomotives, marine engines, &c. comprises a condensing-globe 2 from which condensation water passes through a valve 3 and pipe 4 to an oil reservoir 5. The displaced oil flows down a pipe 6 and channel 7 to a number of nozzles 10, each provided with a regulating-valve 8. The nozzles are placed in separate cells 11 formed by partitions 13 in a chamber 12, and provided with sight glasses 33, each of which has an annular collar 34 compressed between packing 35 by a nut 37. Each cell is fitted with a baffle-plate 15 formed at its apex with an orifice 16 for the escape of oil, and with orifices 23 through which water of condensation passes to the lower part of the cell. The water is derived from an equalizing-pipe 18 connected to a pipe 21 from which passages 22 lead into each of the cells 11, the pressure in the cells and in the reservoir 5 being thus equalized The oil rises in drops through the water in the cells and passes to the discharge pipes 24, where it is vaporized and forced into the engine cylinders. The reservoir 5 and cells 11 are provided with cocks 25, 26 for the purpose of cleaning the lubricator. Each cell is fitted at the top with a plug 27. Oil is suppliel to the reservoir by means of an aperture closed by a plug 29. The reservoir is fitted with a sight glass 40.

An assembly is described for accurately and precisely controlling the position of a plunger in a syringe to deliver precise fluid volumes. The assembly includes a motor coupled to a lead screw that drives a bearing block along a linear guide rod to move the plunger of the syringe in a linear fashion. The position of the plunger is accurately controlled by attaching a digital encoder to the rotating motor shaft. The encoder and associated electronics output to a controlling processor that generates a series of regular pulses, typically 300 to 500 responsive to each motor revolution. Utilizing appropriate gear ratios of the motor and the lead screw, the number of pulses per full syringe stroke in typical applications can be on the order of one hundred thousand. The final position and the motion of the plunger (velocity and acceleration) can be controlled to within a few encoder pulses, thus precisely controlling the rate of delivery of the fluid and the volume of the fluid actually delivered by the syringe. A closed positive feedback system is utilized to detect positional errors and obtain improved precision and accuracy.

A cardiac mapping and pacing system includes a cardiac catheter having multiple electrodes and further includes an electrophysiological biological recorder. An interface system coupled between the multiple electrodes and the biological recorder permits the biological recorder to receive, process and display data acquired from the electrodes even though the number of electrodes may exceed the number of available inputs to the biological recorder. An application specific integrated circuit (ASIC) makes this possible. The ASIC comprises a cross-switch matrix which can be programmed via a digital interface. The digital interface, in combination with the ASIC, makes it possible to effectively interface a number of individual electrodes with a variety of existing and custom biological recorders. A signal source resident on-chip and ASIC permits automatic detection of open and shorted electrodes. Additional on-chip identification voltage sources permit automatic identification and verification of proper connections. External pacing pulses can be applied to the heart through the ASIC in retrograde fashion. An on-chip counter keeps track of the number of pulses thus detected. The switching function provided by the ASIC can be used to decouple, and, hence, avoid saturation of, the inputs of a biological recorder.

An ice fishing hole simulator system for visually simulating an ice fishing experience based about an ice fishing hole. The ice fishing hole simulator system includes a housing having an upper opening, an upper mirror positioned about the upper opening, a tube extending downwardly from the upper mirror, a lower mirror positioned within the bottom portion of the housing opposite of the upper mirror, and a plurality of lights surrounding the tube. The tube is comprised of a translucent material such as plastic or glass. The tube preferably includes a length of clear portion and a length of opaque portion encompassing the tube in a spiraling manner thereby recreating the inner surface appearance of an ice hole created by an ice auger. The upper mirror is comprised of a two-way mirror structure with the reflective surface facing the lower mirror and the viewing surface facing upwardly to allow an individual to look into the simulated ice hole. The inner surface of the illuminated tube is reflected between the lower mirror and the upper mirror creating the appearance of a deep ice fishing hole.
