The invention provides a method for quickly positioning decipherable patterns in an input image, which is characterized in that a plurality of main line segments can be extracted by excessively reducing the input image so that the decipherable patterns can be quickly and correctly positioned. The method comprises the steps of: firstly, performing preposition treatment on the input image to acquire a binary image which is excessively reduced by n folds and finding out at least one main line segment which may be a decipherable pattern area; secondly, magnifying the coordinate values at the two end points of the at least one main line segment by n1/2 times and establishing a plurality of detection areas of the same size by taking the magnified coordinate values in the input image as a centre point; and finally, determining the detection area corresponding to the decipherable patterns by a calculation mechanism.
