Intra-event control strategy for corona ignition systems

The invention provides a system and method for controlling corona discharge and arc formations during a single corona event, i.e. intra-event control. A driver circuit provides energy to the corona igniter and detects any arc formation. In response to each arc formation, the energy provided to the corona igniter is shut off for short time. The driver circuit also obtains information about the arc formations, such as timing of the first arc formation and number of occurrences. A control unit then adjusts the energy provided to the corona igniter after the shut off time and during the same corona event based on the information about the arc formations. For example, the voltage level could be reduced or the shut-off time could be increased to limit arc formations and increase the size of the corona discharge during the same corona event.

A plurality of mid-tier databases form a single, consistent cache grid for data in one or more backend data sources, such as a database system. The mid-tier databases may be standard relational databases. Cache agents at each mid-tier database swap in data from the backend database as needed. Ownership locks maintain consistency in the cache grid. Cache agents prevent database operations that will modify cached data in a mid-tier database unless and until ownership of the cached data can be acquired for the mid-tier database. Cache groups define what backend data may be cached, as well as a general structure in which the backend data is to be cached. Metadata for cache groups is shared to ensure that data is cached in the same form throughout the entire grid. Ownership of cached data can then be tracked through a mapping of cached instances of data to particular mid-tier databases.

A reversed-assembled corona igniter including an insulator, central electrode, and metal shell, wherein an outer diameter of the insulator increases adjacent a lower end of the metal shell to achieve an electrical advantage is provided. The invention provides a system and method for controlling corona discharge. A driver circuit provides energy to the corona igniter and detects any arc formation. Optionally, in response to each arc formation, the energy provided to the corona igniter is shut off for a short time to dissipate the arc. A digital audio broadcasting system that is capable of providing a large number of high quality stereophonic channels to mobile receivers in an environment with severe multipath delay and fading. Optimum combination of frequency and time diversity to guarantee robust performance in the mobile channel, with its multipath delay and frequency-selective fading effects. The system is based upon a dynamic single channel per carrier assignment of each stereo channel to many carriers. Intersymbol interference degradations caused by multipath delay are mitigated via an adaptive equalizer in the receiver. This dynamic single channel per carrier system preserves the simplicity inherent in the single channel per carrier assignment while it incorporates the ability to address frequency-selective fading by providing substantial frequency diversity. The frequency diversity is achieved via a slow frequency hop implementation in which the assignment of a number of stereo channels to an equal number of carrier frequencies is changed periodically. The system offers the simplicity of single channel per carrier assignment of stereo channels while it achieves the powerful performance benefits of frequency diversity and adaptive equalization for the mobile channel.

A storage device for storing Christmas lights assembled from a vertical core section, a pair of horizontal end sections, and a sheath. The device is constructed from corrugated cardboard. Each opposing end of each of the four sides of the core section includes both a foldable flap and a slot, which is formed adjacent the fold line of the flap. The horizontal end sections, located at either opposing core section end, each include a centrally disposed opening defined by four inward sides. Each inward side has a width substantially equal to the core section sides and includes an inwardly extending tab. When the core section is inserted into the centrally disposed opening, the tabs are received by the slots to secure the core section and end section together. Each end section also includes four locking regions, each locking region having a first folding element and a second folding element. The first folding element folds toward the far surface of the end section such that it overlays the core section flap outwardly folded against the end section. The second folding element then folds into the hollow center of the core section. The core section and end section are thereby further secured together. The sheath encloses and protects articles wound around the assembled core section and end sections during storage.

BODY SUPPORT FOR BED OF SEAT Abstract A body support for a bed or a seat having a plurality of resilient support members or springs that are movable between a retracted or collapsed, inoper-ative position and an extended, operative position. The springs are contained in a case of flexible sheet material so that when the springs are collapsed, the case is collapsed or depressed into a relatively thin layer for storage or other purposes; and when the springs are extended the case will be distended by the springs to provide a resilient support such as a mattress, "box-spring" or a combination thereof for use in a bed or seat. Actuating means is provided for actuating one or more of the springs between the retracted and extended positions thereof, and connect-ing means interconnects all of the springs to drive them from the retracted to extended positions. The body support is especially suited to sofa beds or other foldable bed or seat structures because, in this application, the folding parts of the latter structures are coordinated with the body such that when the bed is folded into the storage position, the springs will' simultaneously be moved to their collapsed position contracting the surrounding case into a relatively thin layer, thus enabling the body support to be stored within the confines of the associated structure. Conversely, when the sofa bed is unfolded to form a bed, the springs will move to their extended position to provide resilient support.

In the molding of elongate rigid thermoplastic articles in accordance with the present invention, the interiorly disposed slideably interengaged members are acted upon by the shrinkage of the cooling thermoplastic material resulting in the members sliding into closer interengagement. Distortion of the cooled elongate thermoplastic articles is substantially suppressed thereby.

A base film extruded by a die (6) is coated, immediately down-stream of the die mouth (5), by a further layer of fluid propelled from a manifold (16) through a metering orifice (19). The combination of manifold and metering orifice is necessary to permit accurate control of the flow rate of the fluid and hence of the thickness of the coating, and the mouth of the die and the metering orifice must be very close so that the base film is as resistant as possible to deflection by the impact of the coating fluid, and so that contact takes place before any substantial expansion has taken place. The downstream end of the resulting multi-layer tubular film is then held closed in known fashion and the closed tube is expanded by air under pressure admitted by an opening (7) in the die (6).

A master station and a plurality of slave stations include synchronization equipment to enable each of the stations to have access to a common repeater in a different time slot of a time division multiplex format at the repeater, there being motion between the stations and the repeater. The master station propagates a sync burst through the repeater. Each of the stations receives this sync burst from the repeater and adjusts the frequency of the timing signals therein to compensate for the doppler shift experienced in the propagation path from each of the stations to the repeater so that the desired frequency of the timing signals is present in the repeater. Each of the slave stations also propagates different low power level, psuedo noise code ranging signal through the repeater back to itself which is used to adjust the phase of the timing signals digitally and in an analog manner by means of a motor-driven phase shifter to account for the changing range between the repeater and each of the slave stations so that a data burst of each of the slave stations appears in the proper time slot of the time division multiplex format at the repeater.

BOX SPRING AND METHOD OF STORING SAME ABSTRACT OF DISCLOSURE A box spring is condensed along its depth dimension and then packaged in this depressed state for storage and/or transportation. At its point of use, the box spring is unpackaged and expanded along its depth dimension for use. Within the box spring are a plurality of support springs movable from retracted, unstressed positions enabling the aforementioned compaction of the box spring,to extended positions which provide the resilient support of the box spring when placed into use. In the preferred form of the invention, the springs are made from spring wire or similar material formed into a sinusoidal shape including generally coplanar wavy or sine portions. The springs are mounted such that movement of the upper support surface of the box spring relative to the base will cause the springs to move into their extended or erect positions to provide resilient support for use of the box spring or to enable the box spring to be depressed into a compact mass for storage or shipment. Releasable means are provided to hold the box spring in its expanded, use position. In the preferred embodiment disclosed, this is achieved through the use of diagonal dies interconnected to and between diagonally opposite locations within the box spring. In one embodi-ment, the ties are manually secured in a tensioned state to hold the box spring in its use position, and manual release of the ties allows the box spring to be depressed into its storage position. In another embodiment, the box spring is foldable into two overlying sections which releases tension in the ties and causes the springs to move into their retracted positions to decrease the depth of the folded box string. Unfolding of the box spring sections conversely erects the springs and tensions the ties to hold the box spring in the use position.

An end effector for printing ink on a surface is disclosed. The end effector comprises a primary block comprises a primary-block body. A plurality of primary-printing modules are coupled to the primary-block body and translationally moveable, via a corresponding first actuator. Each one of the primary-printing modules includes at least one printhead which is adjustable, relative to the primary-block body. The printhead may be adjusted by at least one of a second actuator, configured to rotate the printhead about a first axis, or a third actuator, configured to rotate the printhead about a second axis. In some examples, a fourth actuator is configured to rotate at least one printhead, relative to at least one other printhead, about a third axis. Additionally, at least one trailing block can be coupled to the primary block so that the at least one trailing block is movable relative to the primary block.

A corona comprises a central electrode surrounded by an insulator, which is surrounded by a conductive component. The conductive component includes a shell and an intermediate part both formed of an electrically conductive material. The intermediate part is a layer of metal which brazes the insulator to the shell. An outer surface of the insulator presents a lower ledge, and the layer of metal can be applied to the insulator above the lower ledge prior to or after inserting the insulator into the shell. The conductive inner diameter is less than an insulator outer diameter directly below lower ledge such the insulator thickness increases toward the electrode firing end. The insulator outer diameter is also typically less than the shell inner diameter so that the corona igniter be forward-assembled.

The invention provides a system and method for controlling corona discharge. A driver circuit provides energy to the corona igniter and detects any arc formation. Optionally, in response to each arc formation, the energy provided to the corona igniter is shut off for a short time to dissipate the arc. Once the arc dissipates, the energy is applied again to restore the corona discharge. The driver circuit obtains information relating to the corona discharge, such as timing and number of arc formations. A control unit adjusts the energy provided to the corona igniter, shut-off time, or the duration of the corona event based on the information. The adjusted energy levels and duration are applied during subsequent corona events. For example, the voltage level could be reduced or the shutoff time could be increased to limit arc formations and increase the size of the corona discharge during the subsequent corona events.

An outer surface ( 50 ) of the insulator ( 26 ) presents a lower ledge ( 52 ), and the intermediate part ( 36 ) is typically attached to the insulator ( 26 ) above the lower ledge ( 52 ) prior to inserting the insulator ( 26 ) into the shell ( 34 ). The conductive inner diameter (D g ) is less than an insulator outer diameter (D io ) directly below the lower ledge ( 52 ) such the insulator thickness (t i ) increases toward the electrode firing end ( 40 ). The corona igniter ( 20 ) can be reversed-assembled by inserting an upper end ( 42 ) of the insulator into a firing end ( 56 ) of the shell.

The invention provides a system and method for controlling corona discharge and arc formations during a single corona event, i.e. intra-event control. A driver circuit provides energy to the corona igniter and detects any arc formation. In response to each arc formation, the energy provided to the corona igniter is shut off for short time. The driver circuit also obtains information about the arc formations, such as timing of the first arc formation and number of occurrences. A control unit then adjusts the energy provided to the corona igniter after the shut off time and during the same corona event based on the information about the arc formations.
