An out-of-band (OOB) link is used to detect that an access terminal is in proximity of a femtocell (e.g., using an OOB radio integrated with the femtocell or in a common subnet with the femtocell). Having detected the access terminal in proximity to the femtocell, an OOB presence indication is communicated to a femto convergence system disposed in a core network in communication with the macro network to effectively pre-register the access terminal with the femto-convergence system. When the femto convergence system receives a handoff request from the macro network implicating the pre-registered access terminal, it is able to reliably determine the appropriate target femtocell to use for the hand-in according to the pre-registration, even where identification of the appropriate target femtocell would otherwise be unreliable.

Apparatus and methods are described herein for setting up a communication channel. A mobile station may send a message to a base station to setup a traffic channel. In response, the mobile station may receive a single message from the base station including channel assignment parameters and service option configurations. The mobile station may use the information from the single message to establish the traffic channel. Other aspects, embodiments, and features are also claimed and described. 1. A method of setup of a communication channel , comprising:sending, from a mobile station, a first message to initiate setup of a traffic channel with a base station;receiving a single message including channel assignment parameters and service option configuration parameters from the base station in response to the first message; andestablishing the traffic channel using the channel assignment parameters and the service option configuration parameters from the single message.2. For example, the UE may refrain from resetting or reestablishing media access control (MAC) and packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) layer configurations until after a successful access procedure is performed with the target base station. In some cases, a single radio link control (RLC)/PDCP stack may be used during handover procedures. A source base station may, for example, forward data to a target base station after receiving a handover execution message. A UE may identify and resolve any duplicate data sent by both base stations during the transition. Additional signaling may be used (e.g., during the radio resource control (RRC) configuration) to indicate that a UE supports dual link handover.

Paging load and/or registration load in a network is reduced by using different types of identifiers to specifying which nodes page an access terminal in the network. In some aspects, the network maintains a list that specifies that certain individual nodes (e.g., cells or sectors) are to page a given access terminal and/or that one or more zones (e.g., tracking areas) are to page the access terminal. In some aspects, an access terminal in a network may be configured to provide a forward-looking paging list to the network. The list provided by an access terminal may specify different types of node identifiers (e.g., individual node identifiers, subscriber groups, etc.). The network may then use the list to determine which nodes are to page a given access terminal such that when the access terminal moves to a different node, that node may already be configured to page the access terminal. In some aspect paging load and registration load are managed in a deployment that includes different types of access points. For example, access points of a first type (e.g., macro nodes) may provide service over relatively large coverage areas and access points of a second type (e.g., femto nodes) may provide service over smaller coverage areas and/or provide restricted service.

Systems, methods, devices, and computer program products are described for supporting macrocell-to-femtocell hand-ins of active macro communications for mobile access terminals. An out-of-band (OOB) link is used to detect that an access terminal is in proximity of a femtocell (e.g., using an OOB radio integrated with the femtocell or in a common subnet with the femtocell). Having detected the access terminal in proximity to the femtocell, an OOB presence indication is communicated to a femto convergence system disposed in a core network in communication with the macro network to effectively pre-register the access terminal with the femto-convergence system. When the femto convergence system receives a handoff request from the macro network implicating the pre-registered access terminal, it is able to reliably determine the appropriate target femtocell to use for the hand-in according to the pre-registration, even where identification of the appropriate target femtocell would otherwise be unreliable.

Here, in addition to transmitting a pilot signal that is encoded (e.g., spread/scrambled) using a particular pilot signature, an access point transmits a message that includes at least one indication of at least one other pilot signature. For example, an access point may use one PN offset to generate a pilot signal and transmit a message that identifies at least one other PN offset. An access terminal that receives the pilot signal and the message may then generate a pilot report that identifies all of these pilot signatures. Upon receiving a handover message including this pilot-related information, a target network entity with knowledge of the pilot signatures assigned to that access point may then accurately identify the access point as a target for handover of the access terminal.

Semi-connected state operation for UEs in multiple-access networks is described. In the semi-connected state, UEs may monitor system information and paging, and mobility may be UE-controlled. Base stations may determine whether to transition UEs from the connected state to the semi-connected state based on capabilities, priority, data connections, or loading conditions. Base stations may maintain context information and logical traffic connections for UEs while UEs continue to be served by the base station in the semi-connected state. Thus, when a transition from the semi-connected state to the connected state occurs, the base station does not have to re-establish security parameters, nor re-establish logical traffic connections within the network for carrying control plane and user plane data for the UE. An access point is identified based on a plurality of pilot signatures (pseudo-random noise, PN, spreading codes or scrambling codes). An access terminal that receives the pilot signal and the message may then generate a pilot report that identifies all of these pilot signatures. Upon receiving a handover message including this pilot- related information, a target network entity with knowledge of the pilot signatures assigned to that access point may then accurately identify the access point as a target for handover of the access terminal. In a certain aspect of the invention, a femto management system maintains a pool of PN offsets that may be allocated to femtocells mapping between PN offsets and cell -IDs may be carried out.

When the sector indicator and the sequence numbers are the same as a previously received and stored sector indicator and sequence numbers, the access terminal can ignore the overhead message. Un procedimiento (1200, 1300, 1400) de comunicación inalámbrica en un equipo de usuario, que comprende: transmitir (1305) una indicación de su capacidad de traspaso de enlace doble a una estación base de origen, en el que la capacidad de traspaso de enlace doble está asociada con una capacidad de baja latencia; recibir (1205, 1310, 1405) un mensaje de reconfiguración de conexión asociado con un traspaso desde la estación base de origen a una estación base de destino, en el que el mensaje de reconfiguración de conexión comprende información de configuración de control de recursos de radio, RRC, de la estación base de destino; aplicar la configuración de RRC en base, al menos en parte, al mensaje de reconfiguración de conexión recibido; recibir (1210, 1315, 1410) una transmisión de datos de la estación base de origen después de recibir el mensaje de reconfiguración de conexión, en el que la transmisión de datos se recibe en base, al menos en parte, a la indicación; realizar (1215, 1320, 1415) un procedimiento de acceso con la estación base de destino en base, al menos en parte, a recibir el mensaje de reconfiguración de conexión; determinar (1220, 1325, 1420) si el procedimiento de acceso fue correcto; y reajustar (1225, 1330, 1425) una configuración de control de acceso al medio, MAC, reajustar una configuración de control del enlace de radio, RLC, o restablecer una configuración del protocolo de convergencia de datos en paquetes, PDCP, o cualquier combinación de las mismas, en base, al menos en parte, a un procedimiento de acceso correcto.
