PURPOSE: To produce a vanadium-contg. agglomerate from a spent hydroconversion catalyst and to produce a vanadium-contg. steel by treating the same. CONSTITUTION: The spent vanadium-contg. hydroconversion catalyst consisting essentially of iron is incinerated in the pressure of an oxidizer until the sulfur content of the spent catalyst falls down to ≤2 wt.%. The catalyst is then ground to a grain size meeting a desired application. Further, the used catalyst and an iron are and a binder are mixed to form the vanadium-contg. agglomerate, which is then subjected to pyroconsolidating. The resulted agglomerate has a structure corresponding to a solid soln. composed of ferric oxide and vanadium pentoxide. Further, the vanadium-contg. agglomerate is reduced to form a reduced vanadium-contg. agglomerate, which is then mixed with a standard reduced iron agglomerate to obtain a mixed and reduced agglomerate. This mixed and reduced agglomerate is melted in a reduced state, by which the vanadium- ...
