Ni and Mg are recovered from natural Ni and Mg-contg. substances by a process in which a spent catalyst based on Fe and with a S content of at least 10 wt.% is mixed in a ratio of 1:2-8:1 with the natural material, contg. at least 0.1 wt.% each of Ni and Mg. A suspension with a pH of at most 4 is formed with water and is subjected to a pressure of 13.79-41.37 bar and temp. of 50-350 deg. C. An oxidn. agent is injected to give a homogeneous distribution of components.

A process for production of vanadium-containing agglomerate, includes the steps of providing a spent, vanadium-containing, iron based hydroconversion catalyst; incinerating the spent catalyst in the presence of an oxidizer until a sulfur content of the spent catalyst is reduced to 2% or less by weight; grinding the spent catalyst to a particle size suitable for a desired use; and mixing the spent catalyst with an iron mineral and a binder to form a vanadium-containing agglomerate; and pyroconsolidating the vanadium-containing agglomerate. Agglomerates so obtained exhibit a solid solution structure of ferric oxide and vanadium pentoxide. A process for production of vanadium-containing steel alloys from such agglomerates includes the steps of: reducing the vanadium-containing agglomerate; mixing the reduced vanadium-containing agglomerate with a standard reduced iron agglomerate to obtain a mixed reduced agglomerate; and melting the mixed reduced agglomerate under reducing conditions to obtain a vanadium-containing steel alloy.

Le problème à résoudre consiste à créer un procédé économique et favorable à l'environnement. Le procédé est caractérisé en ce qu'on incinère (2) en présence d'un oxydant un catalyseur d'hydrogénation épuisé à base de fer contenant du vanadium pour réduire sa teneur en soufre à 2% ou moins, on broie le produit, on le mélange (3 à 5) avec un minéral ferreux et un liant puis on le consolide par la chaleur (6). L'invention est applicable à la fabrication des aciers alliés contenant du vanadium. The invention relates to a process for the production of an agglomerate containing vanadium, the agglomerate thus obtained and to the use of this agglomerate for the manufacture of alloy steels. The problem to be solved is to create an economical and environmentally friendly process. The process is characterized by incinerating (2) in the presence of an oxidant a spent iron-based hydrogenation catalyst containing vanadium to reduce its sulfur content to 2% or less, crushing the product, mixing (3 to 5) with a ferrous mineral and a binder and then consolidating it by heat (6).
