Golf club heads include at least one part having a side wall extending completely around the golf club head, wherein the side wall ends at an edge (a free end) that defines an open side of the part. An interior surface of this side wall has a draft angle of −1° or more as it extends to its edge. In some club heads, the interior surface of at least one club head part will be shaped so that the interior surface does not converge as the side wall of that part extends to its edge. For some club head parts, the planar cross sectional area defined inside the interior surface of the part will either stay the same or get larger as one moves to the part edge. By avoiding or limiting features of negative draft angles, converging interior surfaces, and/or smaller cross sectional areas on interior surfaces of a part, manufacturing and tooling may be simplified.

A golf club head includes a metallic section, a polymeric section, and an adhesive material. The metallic section defines an opening and the polymeric section extends over the opening. The adhesive material is disposed between the metallic section and the polymeric section to form an adhesive joint therebetween. The adhesive joint has an adhesive retaining strength configured to inhibit the polymeric section from being detached from the metallic section when the adhesive material is at least partially cured. The metallic section and the polymeric section are also mechanically engaged with one another to form a mechanical joint therebetween having a mechanical retaining strength configured to inhibit the polymeric section from being detached from the metallic section. The adhesive retaining strength of the adhesive joint, alone, is greater than the mechanical retaining strength of the mechanical joint, alone, only when the adhesive material is at least partially cured. 1. A golf club includes a shaft and a club head for a metal wood type club. The club head includes a ball striking face, a heel, a toe, a rear, a crown and a sole. A ball striking device, such as a golf club, includes a head that includes a face having a ball striking surface configured for striking a ball and a body connected to the face and extending rearward from the face. A face member formed primarily of a metallic material forms the face, and a body member is connected to the face member and extends rearward from the face member to form at least a portion of the body. A golf club head comprising:a face, a club head body, and a hosel;wherein the club head body and the hosel are entirely molded through a single molding process;wherein the hosel includes a tubular hosel body having a hosel longitudinal axis and defining a bore configured to receive a golf club shaft or a shaft adapter;wherein the club head body and the tubular hosel body are injection molded from a polymeric material comprising a resin and a plurality of discontinuous fibers;wherein the tubular hosel body consists of a wall having an inner shear layer, a central core layer, an outer shear layer; and a plurality of splines integrally molded with the tubular hosel body and located on an internal surface of the tubular hosel body;wherein at least 50% of the plurality of tubular hosel body discontinuous fibers are oriented within about 30 degrees parallel to the hosel longitudinal axis in the inner shear layer and in the outer shear layer;wherein the tubular hosel body discontinuous fibers in the central core layer are randomized and/or perpendicular to the longitudinal axis;wherein the plurality of molded splines are operative to inhibit rotation of the golf club shaft or the shaft adapter following insertion into the bore;wherein the polymeric material has a tensile strength greater than 200 MPa.2. A wood-type golf club head comprising:a wood-type body including an annular face support having a recessed shelf and partially defining a central cavity;a wood-type face plate insert having a hitting surface and a non-planar rear surface opposite the hitting surface, the face plate insert affixed to the body across the central cavity such that the non-planar rear surface of the face plate insert abuts the recessed shelf; the face plate insert including:a metallic hitting plate forming the hitting surface and having a substantially uniform thickness;a metallic rear plate forming the non-planar rear surface and having a substantially uniform thickness; anda polymeric layer disposed between the metallic hitting plate and the metallic rear plate, the polymeric layer consisting of a filled or unfilled thermoplastic polymer, wherein the polymeric layer includes a central region surrounded by a peripheral region, and wherein the central region is thicker than the peripheral region.2. The wood-type golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the filled or unfilled thermoplastic polymer has a tensile strength of at least about 220 MPa.3. Golf club heads are releasably engaged with shafts so that the club heads and shafts can be readily interchanged and/or so that the shaft position with respect to the club head can be readily changed. Assemblies for connecting the club head and shaft may include: a shaft adapter, a collet, a ferrule, and a club head having an interior chamber. The club head and shaft may be changed by releasing the securing system and exchanging the original parts with different parts.
