Methods and devices create a first halftone image and a different second halftone image from a continuous tone image. A third halftone image is produced by identifying pixels that are common to both the first and second halftone images. A toner reduction mask is applied to the third halftone image to produce a fourth halftone image (the fourth halftone image has only holes and remaining ones of the common pixels). The holes are added to the first halftone image to create a reduced-toner halftone image. Further, edges of features within the continuous tone image are detected (to identify edge pixels of the edge features) and such edge pixels are added to the reduced-toner halftone image to produce a print-ready halftone image. The invention relates to a method for determining camera pose information. The number of extracted imaged marker shapes is counted and it is determined whether it is equal to the number of marker shapes within the frame shape . In response to determining that the two quantities are equal, centroids of each of the imaged marker shapes are computed and the camera pose information is determined based on the computed centroids. The markers may be circles. SIFT, SURF, ORB or Otsu’s method may be employed. Centroid distances may be computed with the gradient descent method. The camera may be on a vehicle.

A print system may include a print engine, a processing device and programming instructions to halftone an electronic document to be printed. The system may receive an input image representing the electronic document to be printed, use a first and second threshold array, which are flipped to each other, to halftone the input image to generate a first and second set of data, respectively, then combine the first and second set of data to generate a halftoned image. In combining the first and second set of data, each dot in the halftoned image may represent full saturation if the corresponding dot in at least one of the first and second set of data represents full saturation, or white if the corresponding dots in both the first and second set of data are white. The system may use the same halftoning method for a monochrome or color document.

The present disclosure discloses methods and systems (a multi-function device or a digital printer) having capabilities for an object enhancement. In an example, the MFD includes a digital front end module to detect edge of the object and direction of the edge. Following the detection of the edge, the digital front end module classify the pixels of the edge into two categories, for example, which define that whether the edge pixels are created by black-to-white transition or white-to-black transition. Based on the classification of the edge pixels, the digital front end module performs the object enhancement either in black-to-white transition or in white-to-black transition.

Detecting sizes of documents scanned using handheld devices

An electronic document image of a document is captured using a camera of a handheld device. A user interface of the handheld device displays an instruction to place the handheld device on the document and to change the magnification of the electronic document image on the user interface until the electronic document image and the document are the same size. The handheld device automatically determines the original size of the document based on the magnification that made the electronic document image and the document the same size when the handheld device was on the document. The handheld device converts the electronic document image into an original size document image file based on the original size of the document.
