The air-vapor separation device of the present invention has the advantages of simple structure, convenient operation, and is reliable and effective in separation of air and refrigerant vapor, with good separation effect.

Enhanced signal processing for cochlear implants

The restoration of melody perception is a key remaining challenge in cochlear implants. A novel sound coding strategy is proposed that converts an input audio signal into time-varying electrically stimulating pulse trains. A sound is first split into several frequency sub-bands with a fixed filter bank or a dynamic filter bank tracking harmonics in sounds. Each sub-band signal is coherently downward shifted to a low-frequency base band. These resulting coherent envelope signals have Hermitian symmetric frequency spectrums and are thus real-valued. A peak detector or high-rate sampler of half-wave rectified coherent envelope signals in each sub-band further converts the coherent envelopes into rate-varying, interleaved pulse trains. Acoustic simulations of cochlear implants using this new technique with normal hearing listeners, showed significant improvement in melody recognition over the most common conventional stimulation approach used in cochlear implants.

Each of the CMYK plane is received at an offset from the previous plane, i.e., the 4 planes are not received simultaneously. Each plane is divided into M×N tiles. Pixel values of all four planes are examined separately and the number of on-pixels is counted for each plane. The number of on-pixel counts for each tile are aggregated for each plane. Total on-pixel counts are used to estimate the total number of white, black, color, and gray pixel counts. The total counts for all planes are used to estimate the amount of color. A document is determined to be color if the amount of color exceeds a predetermined threshold. A color billing strategy is determined based on the estimated color amount.

At the back of the image path, the image would conventionally be sent through a binary data to extended contone (BDEC) low-pass filter, set to a fixed level, to produce contone output, counteracting the user's sharpness settings. Instead of applying a fixed back-end filter, that stage can be dynamically adjusted to correspond to the user's sharpness settings, reducing the low-pass effect proportionately.

What is disclosed is a novel system and method for pixel and object level neutral detection. In one embodiment, an image is scanned into a plurality of pixels. A local pixel of interest is identified along with a neighborhood of pixels around the local pixel. The chroma value of the current pixel as well as the average local chroma of the neighborhood are calculated. An adjusted chroma is determined based on the average local chroma. A luminance value can also be measured for the current pixel and for each of the neighbor pixels and a luminance variation determined. The adjusted chroma can be further modified based on the determined luminance variation. The adjusted chroma is compared against a threshold to determine a neutral pixel detection tag for the current pixel. The pixel tags can be utilized to control an adjustment of pixels in a device independent L*a*b* or CMYK domain.

Image data can be transmitted from a computer, online service, and/or other image source to an output device having a set of image processing modules in two or more image paths, including an edge detection module and a video decoding module. The edge detection module can produce edge tag output, and the video decoding module, operating in parallel, can generate decoded video output. The edge tag output and decoded video output can be transmitted to a set of downstream image processing modules, including modules for color trapping, edge smoothing, and other operations. Because earlier processing stages share information with downstream modules which require the same or related data, redundant processing can be reduced or eliminated. Complex image operations can therefore be carried out, and high-quality output can be generated, without sacrificing responsiveness.

There are provided systems and methods for facial landmark detection using a convolutional neural network (CNN). The CNN comprises a first stage and a second stage where the first stage produces initial heat maps for the landmarks and initial respective locations for the landmarks. The second stage processes the heat maps and performs Region of Interest-based pooling while preserving feature alignment to produce cropped features. Finally, the second stage predicts from the cropped features a respective refinement location offset to each respective initial location. Combining each respective initial location with its respective refinement location offset provides a respective final coordinate (x,y) for each respective landmark in the image. Two-stage localization design helps to achieve fine-level alignment while remaining computationally efficient. The resulting architecture is both small enough in size and inference time to be suitable for real-time web applications such as product simulation and virtual reality.

This invention relates to labels. In one embodiment the labels comprise a polymer facestock layer (11), a nano-porous layer (12) underlying the facestock, and an adhesive layer (16) underlying the nano-porous layer. Determining an orientation direction of a color edge at a pixel location in a color image

What is disclosed is a system and method for determining an orientation direction of a color edge at a given pixel location in a binary color image. The orientation direction of the color edge is determined from eight pixel counts with each pixel count being a total number of pixels in each of eight regions of a window centered about a candidate pixel which resides along the color edge. The eight regions are associated with 8 compass points. The orientation of the edge is determined by a 1 st , 2 nd and 3 rd tier control bits which are based upon the pixel counts of each region. The 1 st , 2 nd and 3 rd tier control bits collectively form a 3-bit word. The 3-bit word defines the orientation direction. The teachings hereof provide an efficient way of performing binary edge orientation detection by making uses of intermediate results to simultaneously encode the edge orientation.

The heat source-free fiber positioning and orienting system for the seepage of submerged or partially submerged structures according to the present invention has the characteristics of no heating, distribution manner, multiple orientations and synchronicity or the like, and has prominent advantages on such aspects like reducing the monitoring cost, improving the monitoring precision and engineering practicability or the like; and through flexibly disposing the seepage monitoring device in the submerged or partially-submerged structures, the seepage position and direction are obtained through comparison of calibrated fibers and the seepage monitoring fibers; therefore, the monitoring method of the present invention is simple to operate and has accurate results.

Acrylic emulsion PSA polymers which when cast as a film resist water whitening by hot or ambient temperature water are provided, and are formed by copolymerizing a monomer mixture comprising at least one alkyl acrylate ester of an alcohol containing at least four carbon atoms, at least one polar comonomer and at least one partially water soluble comonomer present in an amount of at least about 7% by weight of the monomers. Polymerization is carried out in the presence of at least one nonionic surfactant containing at least about 8 moles of ethylene oxide per mole nonionic surfactant and at least one anionic surfactant containing up to about 10 moles ethylene oxide per mole anionic surfactant. There is added to the product of polymerization at least one base to produce an emulsion having a pH greater than 7 and containing particles having a mean “volume-average” particle diameter of up to about 210 nm as determined by laser light scattering. An electrolyte is post-polymerization added to stabilize opacity of the adhesive films cast from the emulsion. Applications include autoclavable labels, wet-stick container labels, fleet marking labels and battery labels.
