Um einen kompakten, modularen Aufbau und gegebenenfalls eine sauerstoffreduzierte Bestrahlungszone zu schaffen, wird vorgeschlagen, dass das Kühlsystem (20) einen innerhalb des Gehäuses (10) angeordneten Kühlkreislauf (26) zur Umlaufkühlung der Strahlungsquelle (12) durch einen zwangsgeförderten, gegebenenfalls sauerstoffreduzierten Kühlgasstrom (28) aufweist.
