The invention discloses a method of using a sampler, and relates to the technical field of molten steel sampling. The method comprises the steps of inserting the sampler in molten steel from a sampling location to acquire a sample, wherein inserting depth is no less than 600mm; rapidly lifting the sampler after keeping in the molten steel for 4-6 seconds, vertically standing and slowly air-cooling for 20-40 seconds; and slowly water-cooling the sampler in water for 5-10 seconds, taking out the sample, and chilling the sample in the water for 5-15 seconds. According to the sampler using method disclosed by the invention, through modifying and curing furnace rear top slag, success rate of sampling is effectively increased, and height and regular shape of the top of the sample are guaranteed; the sample is uniformly molten in a sampler barrel through a reasonable cooling way, and thus uniformity and representativeness of sampling are guaranteed.
