Gelatine and cellulose acetate are united together by using polymerized acrylic acid as the adhesive. Thus, in producing compound glass with a cellulose acetate interlayer, gelatine-coated glass plates are sprayed with a solution of polymerized acrylic acid, dried, and assembled with the cellulose acetate interlayer. Photographic films may also be made by spraying a cellulose acetate film with a solution of polymerized acrylic acid, drying, and coating with photographic gelatine emulsion. A layer of partly hydrolyzed cellulose acetate may be provided between the cellulose acetate and the polymerized acrylic acid by applying a solution of partly hydrolyzed cellulose acetate in aqueous acetone or an aqueous wood distillation product with, if desired, a high-boiling solvent such as ethyl lactate or diacetone alcohol, or by treating the cellulose acetate film with, for example, hot dilute hydrochloric acid. A solution of polyacrylic acid may be added to the hydro cellulose acetate solution.

By preparing the polymer in a non-aqueous solvent, the need for aqueous washing is avoided and the subsequent and enormous swelling of the polymer is avoided which means that prolonged and excessive drying inherent in the known processes is avoided.

Described is a pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) polymer formed from (i) 50%-95% by weight of n-butyl acrylate, (ii) 1%-20% by weight of ethyl acrylate, (iii) 1%-20% by weight of vinyl acetate, (iv) 0.1%-5% by weight of at least one ethylenically unsaturated acid or ethylenically unsaturated acid anhydride, and (v) 0% to 30% by weight of other ethylenically unsaturated compounds different from the monomers (i) to (iv). The PSA polymer can be used for producing self-adhesive articles, more particularly paper labels or film labels.

The cured solid film is laminated to an air-egress liner casted with a solvent-borne acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive to provide ease of installation. The adhesive includes an air release patterning to allow escape of air from back of the film while repositioning the film around a complex shaped surface.
