Improvements in the manufacture of metallic carbonates more particularly carbonate of magnesia and their oxides
Реферат: Magnesium carbonate of low apparent density is obtained from a concentrated solution of magnesium bicarbonate by controlled dilution with water in the presence of magnesia. In the preferred embodiment a bicarbonate solution containing 22 grms. per litre of MgCO3 is diluted with about six volumes of water in the presence of the necessary amount of MgO at about 40 DEG C., a product having an apparent density of 0,5 to 0,6 being obtained. A graph relating the degree of dilution to the apparent density is provided which exhibits three minima. The bicarbonate solution may be obtained by treating magnesia or calcined dolomite with aqueous carbon dioxide under pressure and agitation. According to the Provisional Specification, the invention may be applied also to the preparation of barium, calcium, and zinc carbonates.
