Chimneys; chimney tops; spark - arresters.- A device for preventing the discharge of grit, ashes, &c. from boiler funnels consists of one or more inverted skeleton cones C, G, each consisting of flanged strips D connected at their ends by rings E, and arranged so as to deflect the grit &c. to the sides of the funnel B'. The hood J, which is arranged to leave - a clear way above the cones, then deflects it into the space K between the funnel and its casing B. The lower end of this space consists of two inclined half-rings, the highest points of which are at R. These rings meet at the lowest points S, where shoots T are provided for the discharge of the grit &c. collecting in the space K. The grit that escapes past the hood J is caught by one or more inclined rings P.
