Реферат: 288,515. Campbell, C., and British Tabulating Machine Co., Ltd. Dec. 31, 1926. Divided on 288,360. Code-card machines. - A machine in which the counters or other registering or recording devices are operated by differentially timed impulses, is provided with a dual translator, one part of which gives timed impulses in a complementary sequence, the other part giving timed impulses in the direct order. The numbers 0 - - 11 are represented by one or more holes in four positions A - - D, Fig. 1: the trip lever 16, Fig. 2, actuated whenever a hole in the card causes excitation of a magnet as in Specification 288,360, coacts with a disc 114 rotating once in two card cycles and having only four trip pawls 116 on each side cams 120 on a plate 118 relatching the lever 16 as soon as it has tripped a pawl. Each trip pawl is associated with a pair of normally open contacts 122 (direct numbers) and a pair of normally closed contacts 124 (complements), Figs. 3-5. The contacts 122 are held open by a plunger 32 having a groove in which the pawl 116 engages. When a pawl is tripped by lever 16 the plunger 32 is released to allow the contacts 122 to close and the tail of the pawl directly opens the corresponding contacts 124, 'which remain open as long as the pawl is maintained in its tripped position by the full diameter portion of the plunger 32. The switches 122, 124 are connected to the brushes 126 - - 129 of a translating device 130, 132 of the kind described in Specification 270,305. and having twelve sets of contact plates 134 or 136 for' duodecimal working. In Fig. 4 the arrangement and connections are such as to transmit direct numbers to the counters, and in Fig. 5 such as to transmit complements. Figs. 6 and 7 show this in detail, these Figures being merely straightened forms of Figs. 4 and 5. A modified translator is also described and illustrated for decimal working. In a modification, the code card is provided with a second set of four-hole columns constituting a second field, Fig. 1; for this the two fields are read independently and the above arrangement of trip pawls 116, contacts 122, 124 and translator 130, 132 is completely duplicated. If desired a third field may be used by trebling the translator &c. Also, by the use of a switching arrangement similar to that described in Specification 288,516, Figs. 4 and 6, but duplicated, the present apparatus may be used for credit and debit working in accordance with the presence or otherwise of special holes in the cards signifying positive or negative amounts.
