[Class 74 (ii)] [Also in Groups XXII and XXIII] Jack sinkers for straight-bar machines are made from stock, of the width of the blade and the operating abutments are made separately and then attached to the blades. A coil of stock of width slightly greater than the blade is clamped between external and internal rings 2, 2a of less width than the stock so that this may be ground to size on a machine with a magnetic worktable. The strip 1 is then fed through a punching machine that presses the square rear end B<SP>4</SP> on one blade and throat end B<SP>3</SP> of the next by slot punching out the shaded portion, the stock being held against stops 8 by spring pressed members 7. Separately pressed abutments S are ground or machined to fit the blade when assembled and are secured by riveting or by spot welding as described in Specification 582,046. In a modification the abutments are formed by joggling.
