[Class 74 (ii)] A straight-bar machine has each of one or more thread carrier bars A connected to an associated member B slidably mounted on a bar and positively reciprocated between end stops by a reciprocating bar. The member B may be slidably mounted upon the driving bar C which may be the friction bar normally provided and which a reciprocates with the slur bar. Each member B has mounted on it two oppositely disposed levers L<1>, M<1> having ends L, M engaging abutments N on the bar C. The levers are controlled by springs which normally hold the ends L, M in engagement with the abutments, and are disconnected from the abutments by, 'the engagement of the levers with cam surfaces arranged close to the end stops. Detents P<2> are provided upon the end stops to engage the levers to prevent rebound from the end stops. Each member B is connected to its thread carrier bar A by a latch D ; the latch is mounted upon a slide H connected to the member B by a finger K<1> pivoted upon the slide and engaging a recess -in the member.
