Record changer for phonograph
Реферат: 641,449. Magazine gramophones. AMI, Inc. Sept. 4, 1947, No. 24399. Convention date, Oct. 10, 1946. [Class 40 (ii)] In a magazine gramophone of the type described in Specification 641,441, in which records are lifted edgeways from the magazine by grippers on an arcuate arm for placing either way up on the turntable, the resulting variations of the position of the grippers, according to the size of the record, serves to set the tone arm automatically at the appropriate starting position on the record. The inner and outer grippers 59 and 65, respectively, Fig. 4, are controlled by a cam 54, Fig. 13, through a bell-crank lever 55, a member 98 having racks 110, 111, a cluster pinion 57, Fig. 4, and rack 58 on the inner gripper 59, motion being transmitted to the outer gripper 65 by means of racks 61, 63 on the gripper arms 60, 64 respectively, and a pinion 62 mounted at a fixed point 129 in the gripper arm support 128. When the bell-crank lever 55 is lowered by the cam 54, the said lever is moved outwardly by the spring 67 until the grippers 59, 65 are arrested by the edge of the record. The resulting longitudinal position of the member 98 is an indication of the size of the record being gripped. A bracket 144, Fig. 14, fixed to the upright post 72, carries a lever 141 pivoted at a point 145 in the bracket 144. The pick-up arm 24 is carried by, and frictionally coupled to a shaft 158 whose rotation is controlled by a groove in a cam 153 which engages a pin 154 on a disc 152 fixed to the shaft 158. At the end of an outward swing of the pick-up arm 24, its motion is arrested by a stop member 166 so that its position relative to the shaft 158 is correct for setting down at the edge of a 10 inch record. When a 10 inch record is gripped by the grippers 59, 65, the member 94 moves out far enough for a pin 140 thereon to come into contact with the upper surface-of the lever 141 so that the outer end is lifted clear of the plate 142 on the pick-up arm 24 which is thus permitted to be moved inwards to the starting position for a 10 inch record. In the event of a 12 inch record being gripped, the member 94 is not moved outwardly sufficiently to lift the outer end of the lever 141 clear of the plate 142 on the pickup arm 24 which is then held back in a position in which it can be lowered on to the edge of a 12 inch record. The direction of rotation of the sleeves 18, 125 carrying record gripping arm 128 is determined by the position of a member 172, Fig. 13, which is movable to the right or left according to which side of the record is to be played. A projection 69, Fig. 4, on the sleeve 18 extends into the slot 173, Fig. 13, of a fixed arcuate member 171, so that when the record carrying arm 128 is swung towards and away from the turntable it is rotated clockwise or counterclockwise about the axis of the sleeves 18, 125 when the projection 69 enters the branch slots 174 or 175, respectively.
