Electric locomotives and motor vehicles. - To prevent the skidding of the rear wheels by the electric brakes owing to the diminution of load on account of the surging of the vehicle, the current actuating the rear brakes is partly shunted through a resistance r, as shown in Fig. 3, preferably in the last four braking positions of the controller. Fig. 4 is a diagram of the circuits for a pair of motors A, F, capable of running as generators to supply current for the brakes B<1>, B<2>, the controller and reversing-switch at one end of the vehicle only being included. The braking part of each controller has an extra pair of contacts 14<a>, 15<a>, which shunt the resistance r around the brakes B<1> or B<2>, according to the direction, by means of the common lead 15 and the lead 14 running from the brake at one end to the controller at the other end of the vehicle.
