[Also in Group XL(c)] In a timepiece in which the pendulum or balance is maintained in oscillation by the interaction between relatively movable coil and magnetic members, the coil S, Fig. 2, is in series with a battery B and a tunnel diode T. The voltage induced in the coil as the balance or pendulum swings in one direction opposes that of the battery so that an increased current flows through the tunnel diode T and the coil S to impulse the balance or pendulum. Two opposing batteries giving an appropriate voltage may be used. The coil may be connected in series with the secondary coil of a transformer the primary coil of which is connected in series with the battery and tunnel diode. If the balance or pendulum is to be impulsed in both directions of swing two tunnel diodes are connected to the coil in a push-pull circuit. In another example, Fig. 6, the coil S is connected with the battery B and the tunnel diode T in the emittercollector circuit of a transistor V and a switching coil S is connected to the transistor base for switching the transistor to its conductive condition through an R-C time delay.
