Lap-forming apparatus.-A roller g, preferably fluted, and driven at the same speed as the back drawing-rollers, is arranged between the guideplate h and stop-motion spoons e of Derby doublers to assist the passage of the slivers, and metal rollers k, one for each pair of slivers, rest on the roller g, being so arranged that when a broken end of sliver is placed in the eye in the guide-plate, it will find its way between the rollers k, g, without the necessity of lifting the former. The rollers k are carried in brackets j fixed to a rod i. This arrangement renders the action of the stopmotion spoons more positive in case of thin places or singles and ensures breakage, if any, occurring near to the plate h, so that the machine is stopped before the end passing over the feed-plate d reaches the drawing-rollers.
