Platform machines; steelyard apparatus ; relieving - mechanism. - Relates to weighing-machines in which a number of weigh-bridges are used in connexion with one steelyard. Figs. 1 and 3 show an arrangement in which three weighbridges are connected through rods o, levers p, and rods i to a common bar e, which is suspended from knifeedges b in a double steelyard arm a. The movable weight d slides upon the upper edge of each bar in the arm a, thus facilitating graduation according to any two-weight standards ; the weight passes over the point of suspension. A movable balance weight l and bar h are provided for each weigh-bridge, so that only the net weight upon the weigh-bridge comes upon the steelyard. The knife-edge q for each rod o is adjustable in the arm p. Any weigh-bridge may be thrown out of action by means of a cam m on a shaft n.
