[Class 145 (i)] [Also in Group XXIV] A machine for making doors and similar articles of joinery of the kind described in Specification 604,406 is provided with a safety device to prevent starting of the main driving motor of the machine until the movable framework is locked against movement and to prevent movement of the framework until unlocking has been effected. As shown, each of sliding channel supports 12 for the movable uprights of the framework is provided with a locking device in the form of an eccentric 19 actuated by a lever 20 and adapted to clamp a fixed bar 17 on to one of the rollers 14 of the support 12. Attached to each lever 20 is a pair of mercury switches 21, one having contacts 22 and the other contacts 23. The contacts 22 are arranged in series with a pilot contactor and starter button switch for the main driving motor of the machine so that the motor cannot be started until all the contacts 22 are closed by all the locking devices being actuated to lock all the members 12. The contacts 23 are arranged in series in a circuit of a solenoid 26, the armature of which is adapted to engage a notch in a disc 30 fixed to a hand wheel of a common operating mechanism for adjusting the members 12 of the movable framework. The arrangement is such that when the frame locks are applied the contacts 23 are broken to de-energize the solenoid 26 and enable the armature to engage the disc 30 under spring pressure to lock the operating mechanism. When all the frame locks are released the contacts 23 are made and the solenoid 26 energized to unlock the operating mechanism. Separate motors may be provided for the various cutters each with its own starting switch and each connected with the main motor circuit so that the main motor cannot be operated until all the cutters are operating. If certain cutters are not required their motors can be byepassed by suitable switches. If any of the cutter motors break down the circuit of the main motor is also broken.
