Potato diggers.-Relates to a machine for digging potatoes, separating them f r o m the haulms and soil, and delivering them into o a suitable receptacle carried by the implement. The potatoes are raised by a share c' pivoted at c<2> to a bar secured to the main frame and adjusted in depth by means of a link and hand-lever c<4>. The potatoes and soil are elevated from the share c' to an endless travelling perforated band n<2> by a lifter wheel c, provided with curved elevating-blades d. A second perforated band y<3> is mounted above the band n<2>, and is driven in the same direction, but at a higher speed than, the latter. Pivoted pressure rollers z, z<1>, z' are mounted over the acting surface of the band y<3>, and cause the potatoes to be separated from the soil and haulms. The potatoes and haulms pass to a separating-device consisting of a drum s with radial arms t, t, which work between a series of fixed curved arms u. This separating-device delivers the haulms into the receptacle x, and allows the potatoes to fall back into the receptacle w. All the moving parts of the implement are driven from the axle of the wheel c, which is inclined to the horizontal to facilitate the elevating action of the blades d. The axle of the wheel c carries a drum, on which is wound a cable h which can be fixed to a stake h<1> fixed in the ground, so that the axle is rotated as the machine is drawn forward. Manually-operated gearing is provided for re-winding the cable h on its drum.
