Wheel-guards and obstruction-removers.-A life-guard for motor-vehicles comprises one part fixed to the vehicle and another part hinged to the fixed part and adapted to be lowered by springs when released by the driver. The fixed frame comprises upper and lower bars a, c and side bars d, and the lower-frame side bars e are pivoted on the bar c. The side bars d, c have ratchet teeth formed on their bosses c', Fig. 5, or have separate ratchet sleeves fixed to them, a spring n forcing the ratchets into mesh. The lower part of the guard is normally folded against the upper part where it is held by catches i, which are withdrawn by the driver. When this has been done, springs m connected to the side bars d, e pull down the lower part of the guard until the wheels g touch the ground. The ratchets prevent the guard from being accidentally raised. In order to fold up the guard, the side bars d, e are displaced along the bar c until the ratchets are out of mesh. The guard is covered by a net h. The wheels g are cushioned by springs or rubber arranged above their bearings.
